Parsons is now hiring for a CAD Technologist  with demonstrated experience supporting road, highway and civil projects in BC.  You will perform a wide variety of engineering tasks for highway, civil, and transit projects from feasibility studies, preliminary engineering, and final design to report writing and development of construction contract documents.  Candidate may perform in a task lead capacity and take responsibility for delivering assignments.  Experience working with BC MoTI projects as well as local civil and transit agencies is essential.    

We need our Designers at this level to provide technical guidance to project design team in completing the most complex and difficult designs and layouts for complete systems and components of a project.    In this role you will serve as Lead Designer for all phases of a project.  Provide technical guidance to project design and drafting personnel, and functions as liaison with client, suppliers, and contractors regarding design issues.  Project Designers draw upon diversified design experience to lead lower level Designers and Drafters in completing the most difficult and complex design assignments, generally utilizing either 2D or 3D CAD methods.


  • Performs a variety of roadway engineering tasks such as geometric design, engineering analyses, and project plan development.
  • Coordinates execution of work assignments with respect to design approach, schedules, standards, budgets, and procedures to meet client scope of work requirements. Provides manpower estimates as required.
  • Provides technical guidance to project design team in completing the most complex and difficult designs and layouts for complete systems and components of a project.
  • Assignments typically involve design elements for which there may be no clearly established precedents and require anticipation of problems at the outset in order to provide appropriate solutions.
  • Ensures compliance with required specifications, tolerances, safety factors, and industry codes, as well as client requirements and company standards.
  • Performs specialized design computations and analysis within a given discipline.
  • Performs interdisciplinary reviews and provides coordination of data to ensure a compatible design.
  • Provides direction to a team of checking personnel, ensuring the mathematical accuracy of the drawings produced.
  • Participates in checking orthographic (2D) and isometric (3D) drawings prepared by others.
  • Understands and applies commonly used company design standards and methods.
  • Provides input to the establishment or revision of guidelines and standards.
  • Collaborates with Engineers and other engineering disciplines to ensure quality of design.
  • Reviews supplier data and supplier/manufacturer drawings, as required.
  • Assists the project manager in executing and delivering project assignments.
  • Coordinates and communicates with internal team and external clients/agencies.
  • May plan, lead, and supervise junior engineers on same assignments. 
  • Participate in project meetings as well as participate in site visits and field inspection as required
  • May train lower level Designers in various procedures.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.


  • Associate's or equivalent technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent) is preferred
  • 15+ years of relevant experience
  • BC MoTI projects experience and knowledge of their standards, policies and manuals.
  • Proficient in Microstation and AutoCAD/Civil3D.
  • Job leadership experience would be helpful Requirements include strong PC and CAD skills, as well as efficiency in utilizing computer software to complete design assignments
  • Requires the ability to perform in a lead capacity on a project.  
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
