What You'll Get To Do:
Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL and will support the National Team (NT-E) program. The National Team provides timely, relevant BMD System level products that are critical to the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and brings depth of "Reachback" ensuring affordable and effective Warfighter capabilities. It is a consortium of 5 major contractors working as one team providing forward thinking, industry subject matter expertise for the MDA.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform model based systems engineering (MBSE) functional and behavior analysis for the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) mission area (defeat of conventional and advanced Threats (e.g., ballistic, aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.)). Participate in a MBSE environment to develop system-of-systems requirements via system/component trade studies and analysis focused on functional behaviors of regional weapons systems (Aegis, PATRIOT, THAAD, IBCS).
  • Contribute to publishing change notices to the top-level system specification and update of requirements databases, architectural models, interface definitions, and DoDAF 2+ compliant based design packages to document, allocate and trace system and Element level requirements. Document analysis results in reports and briefings for critique and review by SC&R and National Team stakeholders. Create and present briefings within the team and to Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and supporting stakeholders.
  • Work in, and may lead, a multi-discipline team of 3-5 engineers in the execution of these tasks


Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
• 14 Years with Bachelors in Science in an engineering classification, mathematics or physics; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD for Principal Engineer
• Individual must have at least five years of experience within the past 10 years directly working on Aegis, PATRIOT, THAAD and/or IBCS for a NT-E Tier 1 company.
• Must demonstrate a technical background in requirements development for complex, military system of systems activities. Must demonstrate familiarity with the use of DOORS, or similar tool, or a system-modelling tool such as "System Architect," "Rhapsody," "Magic Draw," or similar tools.
• Individual must be able to demonstrate knowledge of one-or-more of BMD systems: EO/IR sensors, RF/Radar sensors, kill vehicles, missiles/interceptors, threats & countermeasures, target discrimination, or command and control (e.g., C3I, C4I, etc.).
• Candidate must demonstrate ability to think critically and capture concepts in papers, presentations, and discussions. Individual must possess good communication skills. Capable of working both independently and within a small team environment.
• Individual must have a current, active Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Subject matter expertise in one or more aspects of a regional weapon system (Aegis, PATRIOT, THAAD and/or IBCS).
• Demonstrated experience modeling or simulating missile defense applications or similar domains (air combat, air defense, intercept of ballistic targets, intercept of non-ballistic targets, space vehicles, sub-orbital mechanics, etc.). Knowledge of ballistic and advanced threat systems (e.g., aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.) a discriminator in selection.
• Significant systems engineering experience with large, complex systems.
