Purchasing Manager Overview

The Purchasing Manager is a key role within the Global Supply Chain organization, with primary responsibility for securing the Volume Materials needed to support Manufacturing Operations.  The Purchasing Manager leads a team of Buyers / Project Managers who engage with a global base of Suppliers, and internal stakeholders, to ensure delivery of the right parts, at the right time, at the optimal price, and consistent with the highest quality standards.

Position Details

Key responsibilities of the Purchasing Manager include:

  • Coaching and Development of a team of Buyers / Project Managers to ensure that everyone’s efforts are aligned with the Supply Chain Organization’s objectives.
  • Procurement of Materials needed to support Manufacturing Operations, including shortage resolution and delivery management.
  • Collaborate with cross functional team of Manufacturing, Planning, Engineering, and Logistics to rapidly respond to changes in Customer requirements.
  • Supplier engagement, with emphasis on developing impactful relationships that result in differentiated support.
  • Capacity planning and dual-sourcing strategies to support Applied’s growth.
  • Development of Supply Continuity strategies to anticipate and proactively address disruptions.
  • Manage Inventory levels to drive the right mix, at the right level, in support of the Build Plan.
  • Identify opportunities to develop and improve our Supply Chain Business Processes.


  • 5+ years of supply chain management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and strategic thinking
  • Ability to problem-solve creatively and analytically
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact cross-organizationally
  • Commitment to quality and customer satisfaction
  • Detail-oriented; ability to multi-task; deadline-oriented
