Job Description:

We are currently seeking 2 Communication Systems Engineers to work as part of a team in our Edmonton Canada office.  In this role, you will lead or perform a key role in Communication system design and delivery initiatives, primarily for Rail Transit, related to new systems, replacements or upgrades.  Initially you will be supporting the Edmonton Valley Line West LRT project, but upon completion, will support other Rail/Transit project in Canada and in the US. 

The Edmonton Valley Line West LRT project is a 14-km long line extension of the soon to be in service Valley Line in downtown Edmonton, Alberta.  The scope of work generally includes complex staging; new facilities such as stations, OMSF, storage facility, and stops; elevated guideway; new structures; systems and communications installation; trackwork; testing and commissioning; and all other civil works associated with the scope.  It is the first LRT extension project using low-floor vehicle technology in Western Canada and will be a landmark LRT endeavour after the 5-year construction term.  The unique project challenges, such as cold weather climate and integration with an in-service LRT line, offers team members future career opportunities in the robust transit portfolio of the City of Edmonton and other similar endeavours across Canada.


For the Edmonton opportunity:

Prepare engineering documentation, including plans, interface control documents, specifications, installation drawings, analyses, and test plans and reports;

Support procurement in the development of supply contracts;

Supervise, review or witness testing and troubleshooting;

Coordinate with the other project engineering and test team members to provide system engineering support;

Provide guidance to suppliers or other parties as required by the project to ensure scope is developed and delivered in a timely fashion;

Travel in support of projects or proposals on an as-required basis, and;

Develop and present technical papers on the subject, or specific aspects of Systems/Vehicle Engineering.

For other projects / bids:

Support various Systems projects and proposals, including both wayside system and onboard train communication subsystems, including the preparation of engineering documentation, including plans, interface control documents, specifications, installation drawings, analyses, and test plans and reports;

Develop engineering qualification and bid documentation to support bids for potential Consulting, Design, and APD contracts


BS degree in Electronic Engineering or similar discipline, specializing in communications;

P.Eng, required

5+ years of Communication systems design experience;

Ability to lead a formalized Systems Engineering design and guide other engineers and technicians;

Experience with RAM and Safety aspects of systems delivery;

Must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary systems environment and familiarity with broad topics and the breakdown of scope within the Transit System;

Candidates with a combination of experience in both the design office environment and hands-on practical field experience, including installation design will be preferred.

Must have strong analytical skills and effective verbal & written communication skills;

Effective written presentation and communication skills and the ability to guide others in the preparation of required analyses or reports;

Experience in communication with clients at various levels of seniority

Strong computer skills including MS Office and especially Word, Visio, and Excel
