Regional Medical Center of San Jose is a 264 bed acute care hospital with a Level II Trauma Center. The hospital provides a host of technologically advanced services including Cardiovascular, Neuro, Orthopedic, Bariatric and General Surgery, Interventional Pulmonology and services for Women. Regional holds Joint Commission advanced certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and a Get with the Guidelines- Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. County-designated STEMI (heart attack) Receiving Center designated Lung Cancer Screening Center, a member of Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ECMO) and certified by The Joint Commission in Sepsis care.

SCHEDULE: 0.001 (PRN-Per Diem)

SHIFT: As Needed

 
 
POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Laboratory Assistant II (Phlebotomist) obtains patient blood specimens by venipuncture and heel or finger sticks on all age groups in the hospital and satellite patient service settings and processes specimens as needed.

Qualifications

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Minimum:   Phlebotomy certificate
 
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum:   Ability to multi-task and strong attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Good judgment, common sense, ability to follow directions.
Preferred:    One year or more prior experience in phlebotomy in a hospital setting.
 
EDUCATION:
Minimum:   High School Diploma or Equivalent.  Some college or vocational level science (Chemistry and/or Biology) and/or laboratory classes
 
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Minimum:   Ability to read, write, and converse in English.  Basic math and chemistry/biology knowledge.  Basic phlebotomy skills.  Knowledge of laboratory blood specimen requirement
Knowledge of blood specimen acceptability requirements. Familiarity with basic laboratory terminology.
