Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space Systems Division, has an opening for an Manager Mechanical Engineering 3, to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

The Mechanical Engineering & Ground Support (ME&GS) Department provides project leadership and engineering expertise to our programs from the proposal phase, through system design for manufacturability, testability and production operations. Additionally, our project managers and engineers are critical members of system deployment and launch efforts. This diverse team provides innovative and cost effective technical solutions for successful program execution of our space and directed energy business portfolio. Our team consists of engineers with expertise in mechanical manufacturing and assembly, ground support equipment design and analysis, mechanical test and integration, and system deployment and launch operations. Our project managers lead diverse teams of engineers and support personnel to ensure cost effective and timely delivery of high reliability developmental and production systems.

We are looking for a Manager Mechanical Engineering 3 to serve as Sub-Project Manager for the integration & test effort of a large space program with the following responsibilities:
  • Manage and Lead production, test and integration efforts of a large, technically complex space program at Space Park
  • Manage and Lead development of flight hardware test and integration plans
  • Manage and Lead a diverse team of mechanical engineers, mechanical test conductors & mechanical technicians in the assembly, integration and test of intricate and technically challenging space platforms
  • Manage and report on cost and schedule for various work packages within an Earned Value Management System framework
  • Participate in technical & management trade studies, risk & opportunity evaluation, baselining and scope definition activities

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) discipline plus 7 years of experience in a technical and/or project leadership role OR Masters Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline plus 5 years of experience in a technical and/or project leadership role.
  • Proven leadership experience on a project and/or team.
  • Experience in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.
  • Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances: Department of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years OR SCI Access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years OR Department of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiar with Earned Value Management System principles and practices
  • Knowledge of project schedule baselining and scope definition
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Business Administration
  • Experience in defense, aerospace or high-reliability product development industries
  • Experience with Solumina MES
  • Experience with CAPE
  • Experience with MS Project
