The Business Risk & Control Officer supports our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture that firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following, and adhering to and if applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit's risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

The Chief Operating Office is seeking a Third Party Officer. The Third Party Officer role reports to the Group Third Party Officer and is responsible for the day to day execution and ongoing compliance with the Third-Party Risk Management Policy and Third-Party Program Procedures. As a Third Party Officer, you will be responsible to proactively engage and oversee Engagement and Relationship Managers and act as a liaison with Supplier Management in the successful execution of the Third-Party Risk Management Policy requirements.


  • Establish strong partnership with Chief Operating Office lines of business, Supplier Management Center of Excellence (COE), and other key stakeholders and business partners
  • Provide subject matter expertise in third party risk management for Chief Operating Office lines of business engagement managers and relationship managers
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency and effectiveness as well as cost savings by optimizing supplier/vendor spend and cross-group utilization in partnership with the line of business
  • Work closely with Third Party Program Owners and the Control Executive team for resolution of complex questions, interpreting third party risk requirements, directing the completion of onboarding activities, annual re-reviews and assessments, while coordinating risk acceptances, and remediation with the appropriate SHRP Risk Acceptance and Group Issue Management teams
  • Conduct regular meetings with aligned business engagement and relationship managers to ensure timely execution is occurring for all required activities under the Third Party Program lifecycle requirements 1-5
  • Ensure visibility to high-risk relationships and ensure performance, SLAs, issues, and business reviews are completed and escalated timely by providing engagement managers and relationship managers regular reporting on their required third party risk activities
  • Provide subject matter expertise as it relates to impacts from Third Party Program requirements and related third party Policy changes with business partners
  • Address any issues identified through appropriate corrective action plans, risk acceptances and escalation protocols in accordance with Risk Acceptance and Issue Management Policies

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 7+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in risk management

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear manner
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • 5+ years of third party risk management experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of Wells Fargo s Third Party Information Management Systems (TRIMS) database

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Third Party Risk Management experience with managing moderate to high risk third party service provider relationships
  • Leadership skills including the ability to influence effectively in a matrix environment
  • Meaningful knowledge of an Enterprise risk management framework, including risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk-related decision, business processes and their related third party controls
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders across the organization, which includes virtual, matrixed leadership experience
  • Strategic leadership skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver repeatable end-to-end risk management solutions
  • Demonstrated ability that embodies the Wells Fargo Vision and Values and leadership competencies
  • Experience providing reporting and updates to senior-level management executing routine governance routines
  • Developed sense for strong relationship management, and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively drive business results through organizational change
  • Able to communicate at multiple levels ranging from individual contributors to senior managers, in both risk and business settings
