General Statement of Duties:  The Network Administrator is responsible for architecting, implementing, enhancing, and maintaining the University’s wireless computer network, network access control, and internet connections. This person will assist in maintaining computer network hardware, software, security, and replacing faulty network components when necessary. The Network Administrator will also be working closely with end-users to troubleshoot potential issues and fix existing problems.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software; including switching, distribution, core routers, Wi-Fi, management, and network access control.

Incrementally improve network service, reliability, security, and troubleshoot issues.

Provide network support to end-users with a variety of operating systems.

Maintain Microsoft DNS and DHCP entries.

Maintain network design, security, and IP address documentation.

Monitor network security and take action as appropriate.

Plan and make recommendations regarding the future improvement of the network security design to the management team.

Implements network security as established by the University’s IT Security Officer.

Maintain University internet equipment and work with internet service providers to ensure optimum performance and reliability.

Maintain external DNS records, IP address registrar information, and domain name registrations.

Test copper and fiber cables, undertake cabling tasks such as patching, testing, laying, identifying faults, and troubleshooting.

Effectively communicates relevant information and events to superiors and ensures the campus is well informed of changes and events which may affect operations.

Other duties as assigned.


Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, with experience in network management and network security of a medium to large environment required.

Solid understanding of computer and related network hardware configurations.

Strong knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, VPN, and SSL technologies.

Experience with 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax wireless and associated network products.

Ability to assess network security issues and make necessary design recommendations.

Experience with TCP/IP, NTP, SNMP, SMTP, DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, LDAP, VoIP, and 802.1X network authentication protocol.

Experience with Extreme network and security products preferred.

Experience with enterprise network monitoring systems preferred.

Experience with network and system vulnerability assessment tools preferred.

CISSP, CCNA, and CCNP certifications a plus.

Fluent in network analysis and troubleshooting tools and the ability to troubleshoot network hardware and software related issues.

Proficient with Microsoft Windows and server operating systems.

Familiarity with Linux OS is a plus.

Stay abreast of new technologies and security vulnerabilities.

Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university
