Overview

Mid- level telecommunications engineer to support the Joint Spectrum Center projects.  Possesses and applies expertise on multiple complex work assignments. Assignments may be broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks. Operates with appreciable latitude in developing methodology and presenting solutions to problems.  Contributes to deliverables and performance metrics where applicable.


Responsibilities

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES: 

 

Participates in spectrum and electronics engineering efforts.  Formulate and develop communications requirements and design standards.  Provides technical problem diagnoses and resolution support for spectrum related systems, including evaluation of electromagnetic compatibility, electromagnetic interference, and electromagnetic environmental effects. Commensurate experience and education.

 

Analyze technical data of communication systems and, based upon knowledge of radio equipment and radio propagation, perform intersystem analyses to protect access to radio frequencies for legacy and emerging spectrum-dependent systems in support of DoD operating forces while maximizing spectrum sharing between commercial and government users.

 

MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:  

Computers, printers, scanners, telephone and general office type equipment.

RF Test equipment such as RF Spectrum Analyzer, RF Signal Monitors, RF Signal Generators, Antennas, RF Attenuators, Low Noise Amplifiers.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Working environment is a climate-controlled facility.  Outdoor temperatures may exceed temperatures of 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

Work may require light lifting, stooping, climbing, standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical or biological agents.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a US citizen.

Active Secret Clearance 

 

Education/Certifications:

 

Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited university.

Formal training on Spectrum XXI and El-Cid or StepStone is a plus but not required.

 

Experience:

 

GENERAL:

  • Minimum of four years of “hands on” work experience in support of communications electronic systems or equipment.
  • Must have the technical knowledge to solve complex problems, understand the interrelationships of circuits, understands architecture design and be able to exercise independent judgment in performing tasks.
  • Minimum of six years of engineering experience in telecommunications.
