Position Description:

As a member of the Automation and Digital Data Engineering Department, the Senior Specialist - Facility Automation Engineer’s primary role focuses on the management of automation systems and related applications in addition to oversight of the IT/OT networks that these systems utilize. The engineer will be responsible for all aspects of the lifecycle for the systems assigned to them which includes maintenance, configuration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of computer systems and supporting infrastructure.   This role will work with various stakeholders including: end users from various business areas, maintenance staff, reliability engineers, corporate IT and contractors  to ensure that equipment and systems are maintained or updated to be within corporate requirements and industry best practices and provide reliable, secure performance within budget constraints.  They will also be responsible for ensuring modification to the systems follow proper change control and documentation. 

The primary activities include and are not limited to the following:

  • Manage policies and procedures related to the administration of assigned systems. Ensures system documentation is maintained to be accurate and in compliance with our company policy.

  • Develop and implement system diagnostics and maintenance tools to ensure the availability and functionality of systems designed to organizational objectives.

  • Implement system configuration changes in coordination with facilities project teams and end users.

  • Manage the installation of software and hardware, systems fixes, updates and enhancement, account administration.

  • Optimize the functionality of networks and systems and diagnoses and recovers failed systems.

  • Participate in security related initiatives as directed including backups testing and Disaster Recovery planning and testing.

  • Act as single point of contact for internal customers requesting additions and changes to the system or data retrieved from the system.

  • Assist in developing the main plan for assigned systems.

  • Guides the work activities and priorities of specialty vendors. Audits vendors field maintenance of the system.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor of Science in a field of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum 2 yrs. working with Windows Server, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Internet Information Server, Microsoft S.Q.L Server.

  • Functional knowledge of the protocol suite software including various programs associated with IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, WINS, HTTP, SMTP, ARP, SNMP, switching and routing.

  • Automation controllers as applied to building automation and laboratory environments.

  • Working Knowledge of communication networks and associated infrastructure in support of building automation.

  • Working Knowledge of automation and communication protocols such as BACnet, OPC, (DA,HDA, UA).

  • Minimum of a year performing troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Familiar with OPC DA, HDA, UA.

  • Familiar with OSI PI Historian and associated tools.

  • Data platforms/tools such as QlikSense, Spotfire, R, or Python

  • Knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11 Compliance

  • Familiar with ISA99/IEC 62443

  • Familiar with cGMP/gAMP Documentation

  • Familiar or working knowledge of lean-principles and Agile project management.

  • Managing budgets.

  • Relevant professional experiences with assisting in the pharmaceutical industry, including manufacturing, research labs, pilot plant and utilities operations.
