Manager, Fire and Life Safety US-NY-New York Job ID: 2020-7618 Type: Capital Projects and Facilities (WS2548) # of Openings: 1 Category: Campus/Auxilary/Transportation, Facilities, Public Safety New York University Overview Direct the development, standardization, and implementation of the University's Fire and Life Safety Program. Consult with University personnel, architects and engineers on University Standards for Life Safety, fire protection and fire engineering design for all national campuses and provide consultation to approximately three portal and ten study abroad sites. Manage the University's life safety preventative maintenance program to ensure compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulatory codes. Assess and monitor sites for life safety including alarm systems, standpipe and sprinkler systems. Assess the possible hazards to human health, property and the environment from a fire and life safety standpoint which may result from release of hazardous substances or hazardous waste. Ensure Fire Safety Plans and Emergency Action Plans are maintained to comply with local regulations. Develop and instruct fire and life safety training for University personnel, as necessary. Responsibilities Required Education: Bachelor's Degree Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Safety, Engineering, technical or other science degree; Fire and Life Safety certifications (e.g., F-89 / F-07); power plant knowledge Required Experience: 10+ years managerial level experience with Fire and Life Safety Programs. Must include working knowledge of International, national, state and local fire safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Must be well organized, be able to work independently and have the ability to effectively communicate with all levels throughout the University. Preferred Experience: Supervisory level FDNY experience. Fire and life safety experience in higher education. Knowledge of regulatory requirements within the University's global locations. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Working knowledge of all Fire and Life Safety codes, including but not limited to New York City Fire Code, NYS Education Law, Clery Act and HEOA 2008. Must be able to review construction plans for compliance. Working knowledge of contracts and budgets. Must be able to perform inspections in various university spaces which may require, including but not limited to, climbing ladders and stairs, walking on roofs, inspecting above suspended ceilings, walk various mechanical rooms or other areas within a facility/property and be able to carry items typical of managers day-to-day function. Must be able to wear various PPE, if required. Some minor travel may be required.
