Lab Technician (Menlo Park, CA)

We are currently seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to join its growing and dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity to directly contribute to the overall success of the company. The Laboratory Technician provides support in a licensed clinical (CLIA) laboratory; processes COVID-19 specimens; assists with testing procedures by utilizing RNA extractions and PCR/qPCR technology, operates automated and semi-automated test equipment, performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. This role requires on-site work at our Menlo Park location as well as ability to work overtime and off-schedule days as needed.


Must have at least 1 year of experience performing PCR and RNA or DNA Extractions!

Pay Rate:  $26 to $28/hour, depending on experience.


Sunday - Thursday OR Tuesday - Saturday

  • Day shift:  7:00 am – 3:30 pm
  • Second shift:  3:00 pm - 11:30 pm
  • Swing Shift:  7:00 pm - 3:30 am
  • Night shift:  11:00 pm - 7:30 am


Essential Functions

  • Organizes patient specimen and assay records for testing
  • Occasionally participates in opening specimen shipments and organizing samples for testing
  • Assists the CLS with quantitative and qualitative analyses procedures through laboratory bench supply set up, reagent retrieval, vortexing, and centrifuging
  • Prepares and files laboratory specimens and appropriate documents for storage
  • Records and directs client inquiries to the appropriate personnel or department
  • Adheres to our Company’s policies and procedures.
  • Manages, orders, distributes, and stocks supplies
  • Inventories and labels laboratory reagents
  • Maintains laboratory equipment
  • Follows all safety procedures and policies
  • Monitors and records temperatures


Minimum Requirements

  • BS/BA in Biological Sciences or related field
  • 1 to 2 years of DNA or RNA Extractions and PCR experience required
  • Prior CLIA or research laboratory experience required
  • Must be able to analyze and interpret amplification results
  • Must be able to handle high sample numbers
  • Must be able to multitask
  • Prior automation experience is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated good judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • Resourceful and an independent thinker
  • Excellent computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word


Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional office environment and a clinical lab environment.


Working Conditions

  • Must be able to climb stairs, lift up to 20 pounds, regularly sit, speak and hear, and perform climbing, standing, stooping, twisting, lifting, and other physical movements to perform job. Reasonable accommodations will be made as necessary.
