Department Summary: The Department of Neurological Surgery provides comprehensive patient care services, from diagnosis through treatment. In existence since 1919, the Department offers its services at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children's Hospital, both nationally recognized for excellence. Both hospitals are the most technologically advanced in the region, offering patients the latest in diagnosis and treatment. Essential Functions: POSITION SUMMARY: This position performs advanced secretarial duties, such as typing medical dictation requiring substantial use of medical terminology and maintains physician’s schedules . PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Acts as a liaison between surgeon, nurse, patient and other staff. Answers phone calls and assists patients/others in a timely, efficient and courteous manner. Performs general secretarial duties, such as typing/editing medical dictation and general correspondence. Maintains accurate electronic patient chart by scanning and filing in a timely manner. Provides photocopy and fax services, sorts and distributes mail. Completes task lists for patient requests. Makes surgeon’s travel arrangements and expense reimbursements as needed. Maintains memberships, societies, licensure and curriculum vitae. Maintains physician calendar and acts as key contact for meeting requests. Processes medical record requests following HIPAA guidelines. Completes special projects as assigned. Serves as a back-up for other job functions within the team during peak times, vacations, and illnesses. Preferred Qualifications: EPIC or other electronic health record experience. Expertise with Microsoft XP Professional, especially Word. Two years of college or business school. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Extremely organized and able to do multiple tasks at the same time. Ability to use discretion and exercise good judgment. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent high school certification. Three years of related experience in a medical office setting. Job Type/Schedule: This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Salary Range: The hiring range for this position is $16.31 - $20.39 per hour.
