Position Description

The Director, Medical Science – PLS and Health Systems is responsible for identifying and supporting the PLS organization with the clinical and diagnostic insight related medical needs for defined health systems to promote and strengthen the PLS relationships and improve the performance and drive the growth of these partnerships. Primary responsibilities include establishing frequent and timely interactions with Thought Leaders (TL), decision makers in the Health Systems, and other Health Care Providers (HCP) in the health systems to align clinical and laboratory medical strategies that promote collaboration, improve healthcare outcomes, and enhance the performance of the PLS relationship. The Director also responds to unsolicited questions on current medical and scientific issues, healthcare advances, treatment trends, and health outcomes measures. TLs include (but are not restricted to) nationally, regionally, and locally recognized scientific and clinical leaders, medical advisors to managed care providers and committees, payers, and HCPs active in addressing patient advocacy issues, and health system executives/decision makers.

Responsibilities

· The Director, Medical Science – PLS and Health Systems is the primary representative of the Quest Diagnostics medical leadership and the signal point of contact for the Health System on matters associated with medical operations. As such, the Director is expected to establish a leadership role in the medical community and among TLs of the Health System.

· The Director must demonstrate broad knowledge base on clinical laboratory testing.

· Must possess the ability to translate data into high quality medical dialogue and insights, and partner with health system TLs to implement actionable, evidence-based strategies that improve outcomes and health system performance. As such, the Director must possess a sophisticated understanding of the pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and healthcare industry including commercial and government payer strategies, and the evolving healthcare delivery models.

· The Director, Medical Science – PLS and Health Systems will collaborate and interact with key health care decision makers in health systems to develop clinical and laboratory strategies to strengthen the health system partnership and healthcare performance, and drive growth of the partnership. As such, the Director needs to be able to present both solicited and unsolicited data and medical information to key TL towards these goals.

· The Director may support company or health system-initiated trials by interacting with primary investigators, assisting in site identification and screenings, and delivering disease education using approved resources. The Director may also support data generation activities including participating in reviews of Investigator initiated proposals.

· Other activities may include identification and training of contracted speakers or internal team members if aligned with health system and company needs.

· The Director will proactively identify, collect, and communicate insights to address competitive medical information in addition to insights on trends and changes affecting the regulatory and payer environment used to develop medical strategies to promote health system performance and partnership.

· Contributes to the development of Medical Plans and Strategies by communicating his or her medical insight and knowledge derived from Expert Physicians, other Healthcare providers, or scientific publications about the product or disease area, with reference to patients’ needs and treatment trends

· Fully understands and complies with Quest Diagnostics medical and corporate SOPs.

· Adheres to the US “Compliance Code of Conduct”; Certifies against all required compliance training; Conveys a clear message on laws, regulations, and ethical standards to both internal and external customers; Develops an understanding of and complies with all GMA SOPs, the OIG Guidance, the CLIA requirements, ICH, GCP, and relevant FDA laws and regulations (certify completion where required); Alerts management to possible compliance issues.

The Director, Medical Science – PLS and Health Systems must fully comply with all company policies and applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.

Qualifications

• MD/DO Degree required.

• Knowledge of clinical laboratory role in clinical practice in health systems and outpatient settings

• Knowledge and familiarity with interpreting and presenting scientific data and publications

• Clinical experience with a broad medical background, specialty area experience is a plus

· 20 years of relevant medical experience including at least 10 years in a health systems environment

• Minimum of 4 years working in a clinical, diagnostics or pharmaceutical environment (excludes post doc education)

• Understanding of clinical research principles

• Understanding of the US Healthcare system, the diagnostics/pharmaceutical industry and clinical and health economic practices in the US

• Ability to work independently and experience working across a matrix organization and commercial teams

• Travel required
