We are seeking a Labor and Delivery Operating Room Technician (L&D OR Tech) to join the Women’s Services team at Chippenham Hospital.

Chippenham Hospital:   

We are one of the largest facilities in the HCA system, and we provide the full scope of healthcare services.  With 466 beds, we specialize in heart care at the Levinson Heart Hospital and emotional and mental health services through the Tucker Pavilion. Our ER is a Level I Trauma Center and we offer Central Virginia’s only Pediatric ER staffed 24/7 by pediatric-trained ER nurse and physician specialists.   

The Joint Commission awarded Chippenham Hospital the Gold Seal of Approval and named us a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for advanced primary stroke, heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, perinatal care, hip and knee replacement and surgical care. We are also a Certified Chest Pain Center, which means we provide fast, skilled care in life’s most difficult moments.  

Labor and Delivery Unit:  

  • 12 Labor Delivery Recovery Suites (LDR)
  • 2 Triage Rooms
  • 1 Operating Room
  • 14 private Postpartum Rooms

Our Patients:

We see a diverse population of patients from all over the greater Richmond area in our fast-paced LDR, where we deliver on average 1,100 to 1,200 babies each year.  In addition to the LDR rooms, we have 14 private postpartum rooms and a well-baby nursery.  For high-risk pregnancies and childbirths, we maintain a 15-bed Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), intermediate care nursery, and 24/7 neonatologist coverage.

As a L&D OR Tech at Chippenham, you will:

  • Assist with the nursing care of patients under the supervision of an OR Registered Nurse.
  • Function as a sterile scrub person caring for patients undergoing surgery within the OR suite.
  • Set up the sterile surgical field using aseptic technique, utilizing knowledge of: Human Anatomy and Physiology and the physician’s preferences for surgical instrumentation, suturing, passing, dissecting, retracting, and closing of surgical wounds.
  • Assist the circulating Registered Nurse with operating room set up, equipment, and positioning of the surgical patient.
  • Follow AORN Preoperative Standards and Recommended Practices and the HCA ethical and compliance principles and values.
  • Work to support and protect the rights of each patient served, treats each patient with dignity and care, and maintains patient confidentiality/privacy.
  • Demonstrate commitment to patient safety initiatives including patient falls, medication safety, National Patient Safety Goals, critical value reporting, and administration of blood products. 

Hours/Shifts:

  • We require a minimum of 3 weekend shifts per 4-week period, additional hours are flexible.
  • We anticipate having both day and night shift needs on the unit.
  • Scheduled shifts are 12-hours, either from 7am-7pm or from 7pm-7am.
  • Call shifts may be 4, 8, or 12 hours.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • High School or GED equivalent (required)
  • Completion of Surgical Technology Program, or equivalent training (required)

Licensure/Certifications: 

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (preferred)
  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS or BCLS) Certification (required)

Experience

  • 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technician (preferred)
