Overview

The Safety/Environmental Program Manager (S/E PM) is responsible for developing, implementing, and consulting on the policies and procedures within the Vectrus Environmental, Safety and Health Management System (ESHMS) related to the GPMS Program. The S/E PM’s focus will be to plan, coordinate, and oversee the comprehensive programs, as required by Vectrus Systems policy and PACAF regulations for all program work locations. Reports to the Program Manager (PM) and functions independently.


Responsibilities

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

  1. Plans, coordinates, and oversees all S/E Program activity carried out by Vectrus.
  2. Conducts facility surveys (staff assistance visits and audits) to evaluate the effectiveness of local programs and identify areas of nonconformance or potential liability for the program. Assists program management in developing and implementing Action Plans, leading to successful mitigation or elimination of adversities. Conducts follow-on monitoring to keep senior program management informed of progress and achieving desired results.
  3. Provides professional guidance and advice to senior Vectrus GPMS staff and functional line managers regarding conformance with current and anticipated worker protection and environmental standards. Reviews current and updated environmental and worker protection laws, standards, and regulations, and identifies requirement changes to management that impact the program. Develops and implements programs to address new requirements and concerns.
  4. Sponsors and facilitates Vectrus, Inc.-directed ESH audits conducted at program work centers. Following the release of the Audit Exceptions Report, coordinates with program management to develop a Corrective Action Plan (CAP). Reviews the program’s progress against the Action Plan schedule.
  5. Reviews data and provides reports for monthly and quarterly reports.
  6. Coordinates, and has oversight responsibility for, the conduct of the Vectrus Occupational Health Program. Reviews job requirements and identifies to management those work processes with known inherent occupational exposures that can adversely impact an employee’s health.
  7. Compiles and analyzes accident, injury, and property loss data to identify root-cause relationships and trends that can adversely impact workers’ compensation costs. Assists management with formulating CAPs to reduce incidents and lower insurance-related costs.
  8. Reviews operational plans and specifications for project startups or closeouts to ensure that appropriate ESH considerations are addressed and the requirements are carried out.
  9. Develops and supports achievement of performance metrics for the ESH Directorate.
  10. Supports the attainment of metrics by enforcing standards, team building, and mentoring.
  11. Performs other duties and assignments as required.

MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

Personal computer, printer, scanner, fax machine, copy machine, and other general office equipment

Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas. Such PPE includes head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations, and published company work rules.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is generally conducted in a shop environment; however, duties may involve the conduct of work  outside, with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

Work requires lifting up to 50 lbs., stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certifications

Certification: Current Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training certificate meeting 29 CFR 1910.120 requirements

 

Experience:

 

  • Five to six years of progressively responsible experience in ESH management and administration.
  • Working knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), National Research Council (NRC), Department of Transportation (DOT), and Overseas Environmental Baseline Guidance Document (OEBGD) requirements.
  • Appropriate certifications are desired. Requires advanced knowledge of current physical and biological sciences; environmental legal issues; and environmental engineering concepts, principles, and techniques.
  • Travel may be required 

Skills:

 

Excellent computer, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required. Computer skills include a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
