The primary purposes of this position are to provide clinical leadership, to direct patient care for the assigned unit, and to work cooperatively with the interdisciplinary health care team to maintain standards of nursing care within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act. The Assistant Manager will support and collaborate with the Unit Director (UD) and serve as the first line of communication between staff and management. This collaboration will model unit values, goals, and expectations to build positive and accountable relationships and an environment where team members can work collaboratively to build trusting, supportive, and positive relationships fostering high-quality care and efficient service to all customers. The Assistant Nurse Manager will have the emotional intelligence to quickly and consistently resolves challenges that arise. The Assistant Nurse Manager will


  1. Graduate of State Board approved School of Nursing
  2. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Ohio
  3. Educational and experiential qualifications with consideration of the following:
  1. Education- BSN required
  2. Certification within one year for those meeting eligibility requirements
  3. Membership preferred in professional organization
    D. Academic and experiential requirement as required by applicable federal, state and local
    4. Proactively and positively deal with continual change
    5. Prepared for an evolving healthcare environment that requires creative and innovative thinking, planning and action

    1. Maintains professionalism and confidentiality in all communications to model the values, goals, and expectations of the unit.
    2. Takes initiative to actively build high functioning team through communication, coaching, shift activities, and resolving of challenges.
    3. Ensures that staff has all resources necessary to be successful in terms of equipment, processes, information, and support.
    4. Partners with the unit director to ensure that communication flows in all directions in order to provide clarity, focus, and connection between leadership and staff.
    5. Communicates effectively with medical, nursing and interdepartmental staff.
    6. Participates in and supports hospital safety programs and initiatives.
    7. Supports and enforces hospital policies and best practice measures.
    8. Participates in Performance Improvement activities of the department as appropriate.
    9. Management of assigned projects on a daily basis including initiation, follow-through and completion of the project
    10. Utilizes evidenced based practice to achieve improved outcomes.
    11. Serves as an active member of the unit leadership team, working with the Unit Director to ensure the clinical and budgetary efficiency of the department.
    12. Provides Unit Director with information for development of annual budget.
    13. Provides clinical coverage in the absence of the Unit Director; on-call may be required for administrative coverage.
    14. Provides direct patient care when needed
    15. Evaluates and ensures clinical staffing coverage
    16. Supervises, evaluates, guides and counsels’ staff in their work performance.
    17. Participates in action planning for staff development.
    18. The job will require schedule flexibility regarding shift start and end times.
