This is an exciting opportunity to work in a COVID-19 testing laboratory and support Harvard University's initiative to expand COVID clinical testing capabilities. Under the supervision of the Lead Laboratory Technician, the Laboratory Technician performs routine processing for all specimens submitted for testing. Duties include receiving specimens and ensuring efficient throughput of samples to technical areas for testing. Receives and prepares laboratory specimens for testing in a timely manner Resolves and documents any problem specimens Sorts samples and delivers them to testing personnel Properly stores specimens both before and after testing Answers phone and directs calls appropriately Inventories, unpacks, and stores all reagents and supplies Uses PPE appropriately Decontaminates work areas according to standard operating procedures Packages and ships samples as needed Disposes of biohazardous and chemical waste All other duties as assigned PLEASE NOTE : This position is located on-site in Cambridge. This is a fully benefits-eligible position. The position is a 9-month term position, with the possibility of renewal. As business needs change, the hours/days of work may change. There may also be an additional need to work overtime and/or weekends. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility with our interview process. Salary Grade: 049 Union: 55 - Hvd Union Cler & Tech Workers Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role: High School Diploma or equivalent 1-2 years of laboratory experience preferred Comfortable handling biological specimens Experience working in a team environment Strong data entry skills Attention to detail Skilled in balancing multiple job duties and priorities in a busy work environment; Able to perform and complete assigned tasks to meet laboratory needs Ability to maintain confidential information Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
