Life Science Technician 1 Stanford University Job Number: 87979 Stanford University is engaged in urgent research to stabilize COVID-19 mRNA vaccines to enable world-wide immunization, in collaboration with a leading industry consortium. The Barna lab (Department of Genetics) and the Das lab (Department of Biochemistry) seek a Life Science Technician to perform basic functions and activities performing biochemical and molecular biology assays using defined protocols and assays. Duties include: Performs biochemical and molecular biology assays in the labs of Professors Maria Barna and Rhiju Das, using well-defined procedures. Prepares RNA samples via molecular biology and chemical approaches, utilizing standard lab reagents, and maintenance and transfer of plasmids and reagents. Operation of simple lab equipment to perform assays, where the settings are simple and prescribed. Correspondence with collaborators regarding data analysis Complete and accurate record keeping of experiments. *- Other duties may also be assigned. This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): One year's employment experience in laboratory work or a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience/training (e.g., one year of college science). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED): Work requires the ability to follow detailed instructions and keep accurate records. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand. Ability to stand and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours. Occasionally lift and handle materials up to 10 pounds Rarely carry/pull and/or push up to 20 pounds Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
