Job Summary

The associate provost for graduate studies and research assists the provost in providing oversight for university graduate programs and research efforts, including the Graduate School, the Graduate Council, compliance, curriculum, academic misconduct and graduate program review. This position will help ensure academic integrity for all graduate programs – both on-ground and online; provide professional development for all graduate faculty; offer oversight for research activities; and advocate for the andragogical and research efforts at Lindenwood.

Academic Leadership

Teaching and Learning

Oversees graduate faculty development in curricular and research agendas

Collaborates with the Graduate Council and other administrative offices to ensure effective implementation of new graduate recruiting, admission, and retention processes and ongoing improvement of established procedures

Administers academic integrity policy and processes for all graduate programs

Promotes strategic collaboration and innovation of academic support units for graduate education and research

Manages and promotes the academic honesty program for graduate students, and collaborates with the Graduate Council to address student grade disputes

Leadership and Strategic Thinking

Proposes and implements policy changes that promote the university mission, with emphasis on academic excellence and matters of diversity, equity and inclusion

Develops and implements orientation and training programs for new faculty in graduate instruction and research development

Ensures availability of grant writing, scholarship and andragogy continuing education opportunities for faculty

Collaborates with other divisions to improve policies and procedures affecting multiple stakeholders

Represents Academic Affairs on university committees as necessary, including on the Executive Academic Strategies Team and the Deans’ Council (non-voting member)


Human Resources Management

Monitors and promotes graduate faculty engagement

Models, supports and holds others accountable to the university’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity and teamwork

Recruits, interviews, recommends, welcomes, observes and monitors performance of new employees

Sets clear performance expectations and holds employees accountable for actions

Conducts thorough and timely performance evaluations based on evidence, observation and feedback

Administrative Duties

Guides the Graduate Council in administering various Graduate School components, including admissions and academic honesty policies; selection of graduate faculty; and curriculum and program review

Collaborates with the Library in strategic planning and resource management

Collaborates with the Office of Research and Compliance in faculty development in research activities and grant award activities and planning

Fosters compliance and rectifies potential compliance issues

Communication and Collaboration

Supports the mission of the university and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence

Investigates graduate academic policy issues as requested by the president, provost, academic deans or other administrators

Analyzes and summarizes relevant data and makes recommendations

Provides strategic communications guidance and support to the provost and other academic administrators as necessary

Communicates graduate academic policies and procedures to all stakeholders

Demonstrates command of area of specialization, as well as desire for continued growth

Maintains professional relationships with colleagues and engages in professional development activities to augment existing skills or develop new ones

Job may require other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

Terminal degree

Previous experience both as a faculty member and in academic administration

Prior work experience with academic policies and procedures in a university setting

Demonstrable and successful scholarship activity

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures

Strong administrative skills, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
