JOB SUMMARY The Resident Director position is a live-in, one-year contract position with the option of up to four one-year extensions. The position is dedicated to student supervision, training, program management, and student development. The Resident Director works collaboratively to create, implement and assess student staff training, provide on-going diversity and social justice education, and work with residents regarding student behavior and skill development. They have responsibility for coordinating and developing leadership and engagement opportunities for residents in a multicultural residential environment. They also supervise student staff and serve on departmental committees in evolving capacities. The Resident Director position functions both collaboratively and independently within a Student Housing and Dining Services residential area. The department houses over ~10,000 students on-campus, with around 7,000 in residence halls, 3,000 in apartments and 300 in family/grad housing. The Resident Director works with 1-3 colleagues to collaboratively manage an area of approximately 500-3,300 residents. They provide guidance and assistance to student staff in their supervisory role. POSITION INFORMATION Salary Range $3,733.33 - $7,508.33/Mo. Lift and carry boxes of publications and equipment weighing up to 30 lbs. WORK ENVIRONMENT This is a live-in position that requires employee as well as all family members and guests to abide by the terms and conditions of the lease/contract and to follow all University, State and Federal policies. Resident Directors are considered essential employees in regards to campus closures and emergency response. Work a flexible schedule with some evening work, on-call responsibilities and occasional weekend responsibilities. This position may, at times, require the incumbent to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. Special hazards of the position may be exposure to chicken pox, hepatitis B and/or other infectious diseases. UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. QUALIFICATIONS Required : Experience working with student transition issues in residence hall environments. Supervisory experience to recruit, select, train, supervise and evaluate student staff. Experience in confronting a variety of difficult situations and individuals, and making appropriate referrals for counseling and/or disciplinary action. Experience in planning and implementing programs. Preferred : Experience in supporting students within diverse communities. Experience and skill in providing equity and inclusion training and development. Knowledge of assessment techniques to gauge student and staff needs and interests. Oral communication skills to effectively lead and facilitate group discussions, lead small group training sessions, and engage in public speaking. Skills to take initiative and to work independently as well as to work cooperatively as part of a team. Skills to efficiently collect, analyze and synthesize information. Written communication skills to produce correspondence, evaluations, letters of record, etc. Computer skills to manage various software (i.e. Outlook; Word; Excel; Google Drive; budget, programming, and conduct databases).
