Job Summary

Manage materials and equipment for Perioperative Services department.  Plan, organize, and direct purchasing, receiving, distribution, and storage functions of the OR, PACU, and GI Lab.

  • Plan, organize, direct, and monitor material department functions and activities in consultation with OR Charge Nurse and Director of Perioperative Services.
  • Prepare and submit monthly statistical reports tracking high cost surgeries and supplies to the OR Director and CFO.Apply cost-effective measures in department operation
  • Co-ordinates special orders for specific surgeries.
  • Actively participates in the Product Evaluation committee.
  • Administer materials program for Surgical Services including procurement of all supplies and equipment . Organize and oversee receiving  operations, assuring timely and accurate distribution of materials and proper storage of stock.  Set up and effect a perpetual inventory control system, establishing a minimum and maximum unit for each stock item. Maintain PAR levels in a timely and consistent manner.  Conduct inventories in cooperation with controller,Supply Chain Director and CFO.  Set up and maintain control of direct purchase items.   Provide cost-benefit analyses to substantiate decisions in product selection.  Oversee dispatch  service.
  • Assure compliance with established hospital and department policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control, and codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.  Inspect department areas regularly and take corrective action where violations occur.
  • Maintain department records, files, reports, and statistics as required. 
  • Co-ordinate and track repairs from outside vendors.
  • In conjunction with the OR Director research, review and implement  new techniques, systems, etc. to improve services.
  • Attend meetings as required.  Participate on committees as requested.  Represent department at administrative meetings
  • Initiate purchase orders associate with vendor invoices specific to designated surgeries.Assure all special items are charged per patient within 48 hours of service.
  • Initiate CER’s at the request of the OR Director.
  • Initiate all special orders in a timely manner. Report and track all back orders.
  • Ability to adapt to change and set priorities in an expeditious manner.
  • Orients designated staff to supply requisition systems, ie Medibuy and SMART.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree preferred or 2 years materials management experience in hospital purchasing or OR Materials management.
