Position Summary: The laboratory of Dr. Jean Baum at Rutgers University is seeking highly motivated and well-qualified candidates for an NIH -funded postdoctoral associate position. The Baum lab studies molecular mechanisms of protein aggregation and phase separation of intrinsically disordered proteins implicated in neurodegenerative disease. The research aims to elucidate protein–protein interactions and molecular motions involved in these mechanisms in order to develop new strategies to interfere with debilitating protein aggregation processes. The lab uses a multifaceted approach integrating advanced biomolecular solution and solid-state NMR spectroscopy, AFM , and other biophysical techniques with molecular biology, cellular assays, and computational methods in order to identify key interactions and dynamics across a range of spatial dimensions, from the atomic level to the nanoscale, and time scales, from picoseconds to hours. The Baum lab is a major user of the Rutgers High Field NMR Facility, which houses four high field NMR spectrometers with state-of-the-art capabilities for solution and solid-state NMR applications. Further details can be found at: baum.rutgers.edu. Minimum Education and Experience: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology, or other related scientific disciplines. A strong publication record. Excellent organizational and project management skills. Plans, conducts, and analyzes experimental results with minimal supervision. Demonstrated experience in biomolecular NMR . Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficiency in recombinant protein expression and purification from E. coli and isotopic (15N, 13C, 2H) enrichment of proteins. Knowledge in computational modeling, docking, or molecular dynamics simulation is a plus. Physical Demands and Work Environment: The postdoc will be housed in the new, state-of-the-art Chemistry and Chemical Biology building at Rutgers University and have access to Rutgers University's high-performance computing resources.
