The EHS Director will provide leadership and technical guidance to develop, implement, maintain and continuously improve the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management System for the Cherokee site, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, corporate standards, policies, and procedures related to EHS as well as industry best practices.


  • Plan, develop and implement EHS programs to assure continuous compliance with local legislation, Company standards and industry best practices, investigate and mitigate risks across environmental, health, safety, and sustainability (EHS&S) opportunities.
  • Drive continuous improvement focused on both approaches and outcomes.
  • Identify, coach and develop talent.
  • Manage the team of EHS Professionals assigned to the Cherokee site.
  • Build network of EHS sponsors and support on site and with global organizations.
  • Serve as a member of Site Leadership team and provide both EHS and business insights.
  • Support Site's Leadership to maintain and improve their local EHS programs, through each site Operations team or directly. Assist Operational departments in achieving and maintaining compliance.
  • Prepare required reports to site, divisional and/or corporate management and regulatory agencies.
  • Manage budgetary & capital needs to support EHS initiatives, projects and programs.
  • Serve as interface with local governmental EHS agencies and insurance carriers.
  • Evaluate, with the Engineering Department, the requirements related to EHS applicable for new projects and processes as well as changes in the existing processes and installation.



  • Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering or Physical Science Degree Required 
  • Post-Graduate qualification preferred
  • CSP, PE, CIH, CQA preferred



  • 10+ years EHS experience in Chemical and/or Pharmaceutical industries.
  • Direct responsibility in managing a team of EHS professionals.
  • Strong project management skills, supporting multiple activities/projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working with EHS regulatory agencies and corporate support functions.
  • Demonstrated skills in complying with one or more regulatory programs: RCRA, Title V, OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and High Risk Work (e.g. elevated work, confined space, hot work, lock out tag out, etc.). 


  • Working knowledge of wastewater, drinking water, and remediation (HSWA) compliance desired.   
  • Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment, including active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing.

The ideal candidate is a self-directed and technically strong, who can work in a multi-functionary team environment.  The ideal candidate also has capability to communicate effectively with senior management on complex technical issues and manage multiple high-priority, complex projects.

This role requires a computer savvy individual who is willing to use technology as an enabler.  MS Office Suite, Spotfire visualization tools and Enablon use are all required.
