Research Laboratory Manager | Boston Children's Hospital - Military Veterans

The research lab manager position is available in the Sahin Laboratory. The Sahin Lab focuses on translational research in rare genetic neurodevelopmental disorders, primary Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. Position will assist in the management of financial, research and operational activities of a dynamic research laboratory. Manages daily operations of a research laboratory and technical staff. Develops, implements, and maintains the lab's standard operating procedures. Oversees purchase of supplies and maintenance of equipment and ensures laboratory's compliance with hospital and governmental regulations. Performs highly specialized laboratory experiments and specimen preparation. Assists lab personnel in the use of specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of the data generated. Prepares and monitors laboratory and grant budgets, maintenance of equipment and ensures laboratory's compliance with hospital and governmental regulations. Primary responsibilities, operations: Safety, orientation, and protocol training of new staff. Observe and enforce regulatory safety guidelines; ensure proper disposal of chemical and biological waste. Maintenance and compliance with regulatory protocols including animal care (IACUC) protocols and human tissue (IBC) protocols. Oversee of laboratory operations, including laboratory meetings, Research Assistant employment, and laboratory resources. Supervise junior Research Assistants, including training and experimental responsibilities. Primary responsibilities, research: Molecular biology including DNA preparation from bacterial culture, RNA preparation from cells and tissue, PCR, cryostat sectioning and IHC staining, Western blotting and confocal imaging. Derive and maintain rat embryonic neuronal cultures. Supervise the maintenance of genetically modified animal lines, including breeding, genotyping and identification. Perform in vivo behavioral experiments, including drug, behavioral experiments, perfusion and tissue dissection in conjunction with the Core facilities and Research Assistants. Supervise and conduct laboratory maintenance, including preparation of common lab stock solutions, glassware and plasticware availability, sterile TC equipment, routine freezer defrosting. Facilitate data archiving and sample storage to promote continuity of research. Primary responsibilities, financial: Assist with the preparation of research grants, overseeing administrative and budget components. Ordering, including purchasing and service agreements. Develop and foster vendor contacts, obtain discount pricing, schedule maintenance and repairs of equipment. Supervise stock inventory, ensuring availability at all times. Receive, inspect, and verify deliveries. Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies. Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in a science related field AND a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience OR Master of Science AND 3 years of relevant experience with progressive increasing responsibility in a laboratory research setting. - analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in-depth, experience-based knowledge. - ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing including assigning and distributing work, enforcing policies, conduct performance reviews, and counsel employees with performance and/or disciplinary issues. Ability to write detailed reports and proposals.
