Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus 8 years of relevant experience.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Platform System Manager. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

Responsible for managing the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems
Maintains the integrity and security of servers and systems
Serves as a front line interface to users with technical issues
Makes recommendations for hardware and software purchases
Interacts with third-party technology vendors and internal database staff
Conducts systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies
Duties may include installing new software, troubleshooting, granting permissions to applications and training users
Server System Administrator is responsible for leading the day-to-day support of Server services, Operating Systems and physical & virtualized servers
Responsible for the configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of physical and virtual hardware
Configures, maintains and troubleshoots network related interfaces on servers
Performs configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting and does analysis of alerts on Servers
Work with customers to identify, isolate, and resolve problems with Server that are effecting other services
Plans, designs, and implements necessary configurations to ensure compliance with back-up and disaster recovery policies and procedures for server systems
Lead automation efforts to reduce repetitive processes to streamline support
Creates, maintains and manages Disaster Recovery Plans for Physical and Virtual Servers
Mentors team in technology to allow them to be knowledgeable and self-sufficient
Work with manager in understanding and optimizing team performance
Advocates continuous process improvement
Identify needs and investigates solutions of tools in providing enhanced support
Insures architecture is reliable, flexible, integrated and anticipates future needs anticipates future hardware/software needs to meet future business based on customer requirements
Leads reviews and analyzes performance metrics in order to optimize environment for efficiencies. Identifies additional improvement and performance metrics
Leads large sized continuous process improvement efforts

Requires an Subject Matter Expert understanding of Server based operating systems
Applies advanced principles, theories, and concepts
Contributes to the development of innovative principles and ideas
Works on unusually complex problems and provides solutions that are highly creative
Uses independent judgment to accomplish objectives
Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range targets
Determines and pursues courses of action essential in obtaining desired outcomes
Serves as organization spokesperson on specialized projects or programs
Acts as prime leader on large programs/projects that affect the organizations long-term goals and objectives
As the Subject Matter Expert have the ability to mentor others on administrating the server environment
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of individuals including technical and non-technical staff, and IT leadership
Ability to work individually or collaboratively as part of a high-performance team
Superior analytical and problem solving skills
Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and lead team plans for upgrades and system enhancements
Demonstrated ability to write policies, procedures, and create system documentation
Enhanced troubleshooting skills within the Server OS as well as both networking and storage technologies
Must have hands-on experience developing, deploying and supporting large-scale enterprise server solutions
Insures infrastructure is reliable, flexible, integrated and anticipates future needs
Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction
Utilizes skill set to help more inexperienced team members to be more agile
Able to handle sensitive one-on-one conversations effectively and controversial issues with diplomacy and tact
Able to seeks solutions that benefit team objectives
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with non-technical, technical audiences, and IT leadership
Skilled at executing complex tasks

Subject Matter Expert in multiple IT fields, applications and domains
Plans, executes and manages large sized technical projects
Proficient in multiple technologies, languages and/or systems
Ability to demonstrate ingenuity in creating opportunity in the face of risk
Expert knowledge able to configures, executes and maintains Security Compliancy processes and policies
Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Physical and Virtual Servers
Expert knowledge of access, permissions and security that gives the clients the access to the data they need to perform their daily activities
Able to handle all levels of support
Subject matter expert in researching and troubleshooting complex technical issues and communicates status to server team, manager, stakeholders and IT leadership
