Job Description
The Protein Engineering group in Rahway, New Jersey is seeking a Principal Scientist to join our group and expand our capabilities in the design and engineering of proteins with novel functions. The mission of the group is to engineer enzymes for use as biocatalysts to synthesize APIs and to engineer proteins and peptides as therapeutics. We view protein engineering as a key enabling technology in modern drug discovery and development. We leverage computational modeling, advanced automation, and high-throughput screening to engineer novel proteins. We are committed to developing new methodologies and technologies that enhance protein engineering and improve human health.
In this role, the incumbent will help to define the group’s strategy and lead teams of scientists working across our company (Process Chemistry, Discovery Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biologics, and Vaccines) to engineer novel proteins. They will lead teams focused on the engineering of therapeutic proteins, peptides, and enzymes to improve their biophysical properties, production, and efficacy. Working collaboratively with our partner groups, they will identify high impact cross-functional projects to enhance our company's pipeline. As a project leader, they will set priorities and goals for their teams and work side-by-side with them in the lab. Using their experience in biotherapeutic drug discovery and development, they will help to identify, develop, and implement novel protein engineering technologies to enhance our ability to engineer difficult targets. As a senior leader in the group, they will mentor, coach, and train scientists at the bench. The successful candidate will join a diverse group of innovative scientists who are driving the next revolution in bioengineering.
Requirements:
Experience and knowledge in the development (upstream and/or downstream), characterization (PK/PD, biophysics, biochemistry), or engineering of biotherapeutics.
Experience with a range of recombinant host organisms.
Experience with biochemical and/or phenotypic assays for protein function.
Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative multi-disciplinary teams to successful outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor talent.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Education Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Synthetic Biology or a related field with 6+ years of industry experience.
