Job Description

We are recruiting for a Director of Oncology Preclinical Analytics to help advance our company's Discovery Oncology portfolio to be based in Boston, MA. This position will report to the Executive Director, Oncology Genomics and Analytics (OGA), and will lead a team of computational biologists working to discover and validate oncology and immuno-oncology (I/O) targets, elucidate mechanisms of disease, tumor-immune interactions, and drug mechanisms of action, and build statistical models to predict responding patient populations.

You will be a strategic partner in shaping the role of genomics, bioinformatics, and data science across our company's Oncology portfolio. You will also assume a hands-on leadership role, implementing rigorous data analysis practices, aligning resources based on scientific priorities, and mentoring and developing talented members of the Preclinical Analytics team. You will operate in a highly collaborative environment, partnering with peers across multiple locations and in the broader scientific community.

In this exciting role, you will:

  • Manage, mentor and hire outstanding bioinformatics scientists responsible for rigorous analysis of genomic data to advance our company's Discovery Oncology portfolio.

  •  Analyze and integrate large-scale genetic/genomic data sets, including exome sequencing, bulk and single-cell RNA-seq, CRISPR screening data, and other relevant data types

  •  Integrate preclinical and clinical data sets to identify druggable vulnerabilities in cancer pathways and in tumor-immune interactions, and to suggest biomarkers for patient selection

  • Implement cutting-edge, rigorous, and reproducible data analysis practices

  •  Help to expand our company's capabilities in machine learning and artificial intelligence for the analysis of high-dimensional biological data

  • Collaborate in a matrixed environment to develop research plans, optimize resource allocation, and maximize efficiencies to best execute on programs.

  • Participate in OGA leadership team driving toward the adoption of cutting-edge computational biology and data science techniques across our company's Oncology portfolio

  • Leverage existing collaborations and developing new external collaborations with academia and industry partners

  • Engage with internal peers in diverse areas – oncology biology, immunology, informatics/IT, pharmacology, chemistry, chemical biology, biologics

  • Clearly communicating results to project teams, our company's scientific community, and the external scientific community through internal documents, presentations, and publications in leading journals

Required Experience and Skills:

  • PhD., plus a minimum of 7 years (post-degree) research experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in computational biology

  • Fluency in cancer genetics and/or tumor immunology

  • Expertise in genomic data analysis

  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performance teams, and to mentor and develop top talent

  • Strong ability to work and influence in complex organizations

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to establish and maintain productive cross-site and high caliber external collaborations.

  • Ability to create partnerships with key stakeholders

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Expertise in machine learning and its application to analysis of high-dimensional biology data

  • Familiarity with drug discovery across multiple modalities (e.g., small molecule, biologic, cell-based therapy)

  • Ability to write analysis code R, to script in Python or another major scripting language, and to implement best practices for data analysis
