Position Description
Northrop Grumman is seeking a Senior Media Relations Representative to advise and coordinate media strategy and engagements within the Aeronautic Systems sector. This role requires extensive experience working directly with media representatives and a demonstrated ability to use objectives-based strategies to deliver on desired outcomes. Based in El Segundo or Palmdale, Calif., the role will advise and support business area communications teams from California to Florida, including key international opportunities and programs.

Having experience in researching, understanding and translating various types of data (both internal and external) to identify and advise on sound media strategies that best position Northrop Grumman in current and future business endeavors will be key. Using this information, the candidate must also effectively shape and craft messages that speak to the value of the company's systems, people and innovations. Use of media analytics tools to competitively measure a campaign's effectiveness is a plus.

The candidate must also be able to effectively cope with change, shift gears comfortably, decide and act without having the total picture, and handle risk and uncertainty. Exceptional communications, strong leadership skills, an ability to see the big-picture to "join-the-dots" across disparate lines of information will help the candidate be successful in this role.

Core responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain relationships with news media representatives - specifically in key local markets, aerospace and defense, and science & technology
  • Serve as lead advisor and focal point for Aeronautics Systems media relations activities
  • Develop and update yearly media relations strategy and execution timeline in partnership with communicators supporting key business initiatives
  • Maintain media relations training processes, schedule and coordinate with operations team on budget
  • Lead media relations tracking and reporting processes for the sector
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with other functional organizations (i.e. Corporate Communications, Human Resources, Legal, or Government Relations) in a leading or supporting role
  • Previous experience and execution of integrated communications and marketing strategies


Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in the discipline of Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Government Relations or Business, in addition to 10 years of related experience in communications, government and/or in the aerospace or technology industries, or 8 years with a Masters Degree.
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic communications and media relations strategies.
  • Understanding of media analytics tools, databases and their capabilities
  • Must be able to travel as needed (up to 20-25% of the time)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Established media relationships - specifically in aerospace and defense
  • Leadership and development of objective-based media strategies across multiple, diverse organizations
  • Understanding and experience working with the U.S. government
  • Use of media relations analysis tools to include Boolean search term creation
  • Ability to develop, collaborate and nurture relationships
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance
  • Proven expertise and skill working with senior leadership, providing advice and counsel
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, grammar, and editorial skills
