Summary

This position has responsibility for supporting the environmental, safety, and health (EH&S) processes on 2nd shift. Will be point of contact for EH&S related issues. Promotes safety awareness with the emphasis on preventing incidents and injuries. Acts as the subject matter expert (SME) for company EHS management system. Assists with recognizing and assessing hazards in the workplace and recommending corrective measures. Works with plant personnel and Corporate EHS to ensure compliance with applicable regulations (OSHA, NFPA, EPA, etc.) and implementation of best practices. Assists with managing internal safety systems and completes required reports and notifications. Assists with conducting safety training and coaching as necessary. This position will also serve as the lead first responder to all injuries on 2nd shift. Additional responsibilities will be to perform EMS drills and training, reasonable suspicion testing, assist with the hearing conservation/testing program and annual blood draws.

Responsibilities

Process Management: Works with EH&S Superintendent and other EH&S Coordinators to implement all elements of the Safety Improvement Process. Facilitates the use of the Safeworks process for improving safety performance. Ensure safety systems are implemented and maintained effectively including: ISO 9000, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 (where applicable), safety and health management system, electronic SDS system, and others.
Compliance: Under the direction of the EH&S Superintendent, the Safety Coordinator ensures compliance with all safety related laws and regulations. Maintain injury records and post safety related information as required. Collects, analyzes, and interprets incident data, making recommendations for corrective actions to eliminate or minimize potential hazards. Maintain written programs to ensure they are up to date and follow corporate models. Ensure proper completion of records and reports. Complete all safety related testing as required. Inspect property, equipment, and work practices for compliance with company policy, regulatory and insurance carrier standards. Ensures completion of open inspection, audit, and OFI action items and findings. Ensures compliance with contractor management program (ISN).
Training: Educate employees on the regulatory standards applicable to the facility. Instruct all employees on internal safety policies and procedures. Ensure required safety training has been identified and completed for new and existing employees. Assists with new employee safety orientation training.
Risk Assessment: Along with the EH&S Superintendent, the Safety Coordinator will ensure all job functions have appropriate risk assessments completed using Safety Failure Modes & Effect Analysis (SFMEA) or Job Safety Analysis (JSA). Implement appropriate measures to minimize risk including the use of controls where possible
Communication: Complete internal incident notifications in accordance with company policy. Ensure all hazardous areas and conditions are identified and communicated to employees using appropriate visual and audio techniques
Vendor Management: Assists with vendor selection, contract management and safety oversight

Desired Experience

Bachelor's degree preferred or work experience may be substituted
Ability to work 2nd shift from 2:30pm – 11:30pm
Prior experience with coaching, mentoring and influencing to lead a culture of safety
Three plus years of related experience in an industrial, manufacturing or distrubution facility
OSHA 30 hour General Industry preferred
Must exhibit strong leadership skills; Must possess strong organization and record keeping skills
Must have solid understanding of safety policies and procedures
Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of plant personnel
Emergency Medical Technician certification highly preferred
Strong knowledge of safety compliance (OSHA, NIOSH, NFPA, EPA)
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
