  1. Demonstrates ability to properly set-up, handle and maintain anesthesia related equipment, to include cleaning of the TEE, intubating bronchoscope and any other highly specialized anesthesia equipment.  Under the direct supervision of the cardiac anesthesia physician assists in the technical performance of the “bubble test”.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of proper handling of Glutaraldehyde including use of protective attire, daily potency checks and spill procedures.
  3. Demonstrates ability to operate steris machines and flash autoclaves. 

  4. Understands and demonstrates the ability to differentiate the various methods of sterilization and disinfection and apply these techniques to the care and handling of anesthesia equipment.
  5. Demonstrates the ability to understand the different types of anesthesia equipment/supplies and the rationale for their use.  To include the cardiac anesthesia supplies/equipment as well as the general OR anesthesia supplies/equipment, i.e. epidural cart, IV cart, anesthesia carts (including medication restock), anesthesia workroom and C-section room. 
  6. Orders supplies and restocks work area as assigned, assuring the availability of needed supplies.
  7. Assists anesthesia personnel during scheduled and emergent surgical procedures in an efficient, organized manner.
  8. Demonstrates the ability to set-up anesthesia supplies/equipment for the various surgical procedures performed at PRH in an organized efficient manner.  To include set up and priming of  transducer lines with pre mixed heparinized IV saline solution.  Utilizes detailed anesthesia preference cards to assist with set up of IV lines pertinent to surgical procedures (not to include drawing up, mixing and or administration of medications). Displaying the ability to utilize organization, prioritization and economy of time and equipment/supplies.
  9. Demonstrates Proficiency in performing the daily QC and operation of  the  Osmetech Blood Gas Machine.
  10. Demonstrates proficiency in performing daily QC and operation of the Hemachron Junior ACT machine.
  11. Demonstrates self-direction above and beyond daily assignments and actively offers assistance to colleagues both within main OR’s, cardiac OR’s and various other patient care units.

  12. Attains and maintains competency to function as a cell saver operator.
  13. Achieves the competency requirements for the surgical support scrub role to include the educational preparation and completion of the competencies; aseptic technique, surgical hand scrub, sterile gowning and gloving




  • 1-3 years of experience is required

  • Active BLS is required
