Requisition Number: 2020-361 Business Unit: College of Medicine Department: Pharmacology/Exp Neuroscience 50000523 Reg-Temp: Full-Time Regular Position Summary: The Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience at the University of Nebraska Medical Center is seeking a self-motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to work mainly in understanding immunological basis of HIV / SIV pathogenesis/ COVID -19. Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for designing and conducting research studies related to NIH funded projects. The research is focused on the development of an effective AIDS vaccine in a nonhuman primate model of human HIV infection using molecular biology, virology, immunology, systems biology, proteomic and genomic tools to understand host-virus dynamics and immunology of infectious diseases including HIV / AIDS and SARS -CoV-2. Research interests include having relevant animal models as a synergistic platform for preclinical development of vaccines/ therapeutics and immunological aspects of the disease. Candidate will write and submit scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals, grant writing and play a significant role in manuscript development and submission. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated to contribute to existing programs as well as to develop their own research program. Candidate will design experiments, conduct original research, and perform data analysis. Provide work coordination to technicians and guidance to graduate students, as needed. Remain abreast of changes and developments in the field of research. Establishes and maintains a network of professional relationships. Highly skilled in primer designing, site directed mutagenesis, RT- PCR . Candidate must submit three letters of recommendation, signed, on letterhead, describing the relationship to the applicant, past work/academic performance, work qualities/personal conduct and an overall assessment of potential for success in research environment. Required Qualifications: Applicants must have completed all the requirements for their Doctoral degree at the time of application. Prior experience in infectious disease research, immunology, and molecular biology and published work in peer-reviewed journals. Deep understanding of viral immunology is needed plus strong motivation to harness this knowledge for drug discovery. Advanced theoretical understanding of work being performed required. Strong presentation skills. Candidate must demonstrate experience maintaining organized data, working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, conceptualizing and prioritizing objectives and exercising independent judgment. High-level knowledge of and extensive experience, in standard research protocols in molecular biology, virology, and cellular immunology required. Candidates must have a strong publication record and should have very good oral and written communication skills. Supplemental Qualifications: Preference with a PhD in Immunology/Virology or DVM with PhD in Immunology/Virology or degree in DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine). Hands-on experience with small and large animals preferred. Extensive working experience using flow cytometry/CyTOF is preferred. Salary Range: Salary Commensurate with Experience
