The Enterprise Functions Technology (EFT) group provides technology solutions and support for Risk, Audit, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Corporate Properties, and Stakeholder Relations business lines. In addition, EFT provides unique technology solutions and innovation for Wells Fargo Technology, Enterprise Shared Services, and Enterprise Data Management. This combined portfolio of applications and tools are continually engineered to meet the challenges of stability, security, scalability, and speed.

Compliance, Legal, Audit & Regulatory Technology (CLAR) provides technology support and development for Legal & Data Controls, Compliance Risk & Audit, Financial Crimes, Front Office and Second Line Risk, Employee Compliance, Regulator Regulations, Market Surveillance, and Regulator Change Management.

Enterprise Functions Technology has embarked on an ambitious Risk Transformation program and as part of that we are looking for a Principal Engineer who will be part of a  team that is responsible for developing and supporting  enterprise platforms in the Financial Crimes area of Compliance.

A strong forward thinking technical solutions architect with experience in implementing integrated solutions is required to help create a integrated architecture that leverages industry best practices and new technologies such as AI/ML and recommends innovations that enhance operations and/or provide a competitive advantage across all areas of Financial Crimes including Transaction Monitoring, Sanctions Screening,Investigations, and KYC. You'll be part of a technical team delivering on enterprise wide projects through all phases of the system development life cycle including estimating, analysis, design, testing, implementation, user support and documentation.

Position Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes:

  • This position is responsible for participating in the creation and implementation of a technology framework and providing strong technical expertise to application development teams and senior technology management.
  • Responsible for being a technical expert, innovator, and strategic thought leader for technology engineering discipline such as applications, micro-services, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations and/or provide a competitive advantage to the organization.  Knowledge and experience applying key technology advancements such as Cloud & Big Data, Graph Technology, and/or AI/Machine Learning.
  • Translates advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions.
  • Develops standards and best practices for engineering complex, large-scale technology solutions to address highly complex and typically cross-organizational issues in the Compliance area, while maintaining broad knowledge of other technology engineering disciplines and partnering with other key experts.
  • May represent Wells Fargo to external industry groups, influencing industry standards.
  • Provides expert counsel to senior technology leadership and advises and mentors others with the goal of knowledge transfer.
  • Be the escalation point for teams facing extremely complex technical challenges

  • Effectively communicate with and influence key stakeholders across the enterprise, at all levels of the organization
  • Lead team technically, provide coaching and development, drive architecture/design reviews focused on business requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering experience; or 10+ years of experience in a technical management role
  • 3+ years of compliance and regulatory systems experience
  • 2+ years of design, implementation and governance experience with Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing or Machine Learning architecture
  • 2+ years of experience with Cloud technologies
  • 2+ years of experience with Big Data or Hadoop tools such as Spark, Hive, Kafka and Map

Desired Qualifications

  • A Masters degree or higher in computer science or finance
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • A BS/BA degree or higher in science or technology
  • Experience supporting senior level leaders/executives
  • 5+ years of ETL, data warehouse and data analytics delivery experience on internal or external cloud platforms
  • Experience in one or a combination of the following: Cloud Foundry or Kubernetes
  • 7+ years of compliance and regulatory systems experience
  • 5+ years of experience with design, implementation and governance experience with Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing or Machine Learning architecture
  • 5+ years of Big Data experience
  • 10+ years of Java or Python experience

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Must have knowledge of the latest technology and industry practices in Compliance, preferably Financial Crimes.
  • Knowledge and experience applying key technology advancements such as Cloud & Big Data, Graph Technology, and/or AI/Machine Learning
  • Ability to convey and understand organizational goals.
  • Solid understanding of SDLC as well as expert knowledge of both agile and traditional project management principles and practices and the ability to blend them as needed.
  • Experience working on large scale technical projects.
  • Strong technical background to provide highly-credible leadership to technical teams, and to objectively evaluate complex project issues and risks.
  • Very well versed in using Agile methodologies to design solutions
  • experience creating and implementing strategic plans and roadmaps at the executive level for enterprise wide business initiatives
  • Ability to lead and guide technical and business teams to build product and services
  • Very well versed in designing and documenting enterprise data solutions
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize while supporting multiple projects
  • Proficient with collaboration
  • Outstanding presentation skills with a high degree of comfort, to leadership and program stakeholders and organization executives
  • Strong software development background
  • Designing and leading data  strategies
  • Ability to recommend and implement industry best practices for advanced and real time analytics.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, and the associated data science, analytics, data management, and data visualization tools, such as Azure, AWS, GCP etc.
  • Research methodologies and principles (qualitative and quantitative)
  • Advanced skills in the design, deployment, and evaluation of tools, frameworks, and patterns to build scalable platforms
  • Excellent data management skills and analytical thinking capabilities
