Research Associate – High-throughput Screening, San Diego, CA

We are seeking a Research Associate - High-throughput Screening who can help us to revolutionize plant breeding using our unique, patented RTDS™ gene editing technology to produce sustainable industrial and agricultural products and improve human health by safely harnessing Nature's own genetic diversity.  The position requires a B.Sc. degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field with 0+ years of experience or an AA/HS diploma with 2+ years of experience. 

Position Type:  Long-term contract

Pay Rate:  $20/hr

The successful applicant will help to run an automated screening platform supporting company’s patented gene editing technology. This position will work as part of a team and be expected to independently run all aspects of the screening workflow including operation of a liquid handling system for DNA extraction and automated genotyping. 

Responsibilities will involve:

  • Sample preparation / reagent preparation
  • Initiating PCR / qPCR reactions
  • Running the liquid handling platform
  • Perform data analysis and data reporting.
  • Other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Prior experience running automated liquid handlers is essential
  • Theoretical and practical experience with a range of PCR, qPCR, and dPCR Genotyping Protocols such as TaqMan and KASP assays.
  • Hands on experience with DNA extraction and other general Molecular Biology Protocols
  • An understanding of NGS Target Amplicon Resequencing protocols is beneficial
  • Strong problem solving skills and capabilities to identify process gaps and improve process efficiency
  • Excellent sample and data tracking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to record experimental procedures in a clear, accurate manner
  • Able to follow Standard Operating Procedures
  • Highly proficient in Excel and MS Office suite.
  • Effectively communicates with supervisor through meetings and report writing
  • Ability to be independent, self-motivated, and enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment
  • An understanding of molecular breeding and marker assisted selection is beneficial.
