Safety & Training Specialist - 2003311 Required Qualifications(as evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three years of experience in the Safety and Health field, including the development and implementation of safety training programs. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. (***Out-of-State Applicants, see "Special Notes"). Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field. Five or more years of experience in the Safety and Health field. Demonstrated knowledge through formal education, training, and/or experience, on the principles and practices associated with workplace hazard assessments, evaluating risk and hazard control measures, accident investigations, injury and illness prevention programs and recordkeeping. Experience in a college or university setting. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification from BCSP. Experience teaching the OSHA 10 & 30 Hour program for Construction as an OSHA 500 Outreach Training Program Trainer. Knowledge of Dangerous Goods Shipping requirements and training experience. Respirator training and fit testing experience. Knowledge of environmental compliance programs. Brief Description of Duties: The Safety & Training Specialist will develop and implement programs that ensure safety and compliance with Federal OSHA and State PESH regulations and requirements, including but not limited to: occupational safety and health training, injury and illness record keeping and reporting, conducting accident investigations, performing safety inspections and hazard assessments, developing EH&S policies and procedures, conducting respiratory training and fit testing, and coordinating the University's Food Safety Program. The Specialist will also assist in the implementation of environmental compliance programs. The incumbent must have excellent written communication, presentation and computer skills. Additionally, the candidate will have demonstrated platform skills with the ability to prepare and present technical subjects to an audience having diverse backgrounds. Occupational Safety Training: Develop, schedule and conduct occupational safety training programs, in accordance with OSHA and PESH requirements. Develop lesson plans and maintain all training records and statistics. Conduct training needs assessments for departments and prepare training compliance reports. Coordinate and track training requirements and certifications for EH&S staff. Respirator Fit Testing and Training: Manage and coordinate the University's Respirator Fit Testing and Training Program for the Campus and Health Sciences Schools and departments. Work with EH&S program Managers in determining Medical Evaluation needs, and assist with the coordination of medical evaluations with Occupational Medicine. Occupational Safety : Assist with the coordination and tracking of EHS Policies & Procedure development, review and updates. Respond to and investigate reports of hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices, evaluate concerns and provide recommendations for mitigation. Perform workplace hazard assessments, provide recommendations, training and assist departments with implementation, as needed. Perform worksite hazard assessments, evaluate risks and provide recommendations for hazard control measures, training and personal protective equipment (PPE). Perform facility safety inspections, generate facility reports and follow-up to ensure corrective actions have been implemented. Injury and Illness Investigation and Reporting: Respond to incidents and conduct accident investigations to identify causes and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence. Review injury and illness reports, and obtain additional information from departments as needed, to determine OSHA/PESH recordability. Coordinate injury/illness reporting, including lost-time cases, with Human Resources and work with EH&S Administrative staff to ensure accurate data entry. Prepare annual reports, including NYS DOL (PESH) injury and illness logs and summary of work-related injuries and illnessess, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics Survey of Occupational Injury and Illnesses. Prepare injury/illness statistics, trends and reports for departments. EH&S Program Support: Work with the Environmental Compliance Specialist and assist with implementation of Environmental Compliance program activities, including but not limited to conducting inspections, performing sampling and providing training, as needed. Assist with developing Safety Guides and other information to increase awareness and communicate requirements to the campus community. Maintain the Safety, Training and Environmental Compliance websites and assist other EH&S groups as needed. Respond to emergencies and assist the EH&S Fire Marshals and other EH&S Specialists as needed. Participate in University events as required. Food Safety: Manage and coordinate the University's food safety program including review and update of the Food Safety Policy, reviewing and approving food permits, and providing training for food coordinators. Inspect permitted food events and coordinate inspections/issues with SCDOHS. Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. Special Notes: This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
