Join a global cross-functional Experience Design team that researches, designs, and delivers awesome solutions for the industrial businesses as part of Honeywell's Safety & Productivity Solutions (SPS) group. SPS creates solutions serving more than 500 million workers worldwide in the energy, construction, industrial safety, transportation & logistics, retail, and healthcare sectors.

We are seeking a Director for Industrial Design Excellence who can define and drive design execution for the next generation of professional and industrial products that offer desirable, usable and market-disrupting experiences. You will work directly with senior leaders from design, marketing, and engineering and be expected to help the organization drive value through design excellence and appropriately prioritize user experience design. We will count on you to lead initiatives and represent industrial and physical design with our internal stakeholders and external customers and to coach and mentor other industrial designers. You will drive industrial and physical design strategy, practices, norms, and assets to organization.  As part of a global design team you will collaborate with industrial and graphic designers, user researchers, marketing and engineering to produce outstanding branded, seamless experiences across the SPS portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead industrial and physical design strategy, operations, and implementation across SPS product categories.
Own quality of Industrial Design for SPS from the user experience perspective. Drive industrial and physical design reviews.
Build Design Systems and assets used by Discovery and Development teams to design in quality and accelerate prototyping and development.
Carefully maintain and evolve the Honeywell brand design language for SPS in collaboration with the cross-functional team and design leadership, and to align with Honeywell’s overall branded goals.
Work with business and functions to decrease barriers in implementation as concepts move from idea through offering launch.
Work with development teams to develop systems to systematically improve design quality.
Communicate and operationalize design strategy, practices, norms, and assets to organization.
Drive awareness of design excellence internally and externally, including recognition through industry awards.
Maintain a continued understanding of the marketplace, competition, industry, methods, and relevant trends.
Execute toward a holistic end-to-end user experience approach with Industrial Design as a critical element that extends beyond the product use (e.g., purchase, maintenance, repair, etc)
Matrixed reporting relationship with industrial designers to drive design excellence and consistency.
Coach and mentor designers.

YOU MUST HAVE

Bachelors or Masters or equivalent qualification in Industrial Design or related.
7+ years of experience in Industrial Design of products.

Exceptional portfolio demonstrating innovative concepts and commercialized products.
Demonstrated experience creating, developing, and delivering product designs.
Experience working with user researchers to understand the user’s needs and wants.
Experience creating low-fidelity to high-fidelity prototypes.
Experience in working with external design and development firms.
Highly collaborative approach with an ability to communicate effectively at multiple levels in multidisciplinary teams to drive design consensus.
Experience working across multiple types of products and platforms.
Advanced experience with industrial design creation tools.
Expert in working with rapid prototyping techniques.
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
People-management experience in matrixed organizations.
Proven understanding of design systems and design execution processes involved in product development. Extensive insight and knowledge in agile and how to effectively drive design execution.
Experience in both consulting & corporate design environments is a plus.
