Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is currently searching for a Postdoctoral Investigator to join their Physical Oceanography Department. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for full benefits. The Institution has a top-rated postdoctoral program ( www.whoi.edu/postdoctoral/ ) that supports a dynamic postdoctoral community with formal mentoring and career guidance programs. Essential Functions We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and independent physical oceanographer for a postdoctoral position who will work with a team of researchers on an NSF-funded project, Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Program (OSNAP). The goal of the project is to observe and understand the drivers of seasonal-to-decadal variability in meridional fluxes of volume, heat and freshwater at subpolar latitudes. The candidate should have experience in the analysis of moored observations and numerical model output and have expertise in meso-scale and large-scale ocean dynamics. The successful candidate will analyze a growing time series (2014-2020 with extension to 2024 expected) from a transport-resolving current meter and T/S moored array in the Irminger Basin east of Greenland to develop a better understanding of the mean structure of the Deep Western Boundary Current (DWBC) and the drivers of variability on time scales from mesoscale to interannual. The Postdoctoral Investigator is expected to include dynamical models as well as numerical model output where appropriate to extend the interpretation of the observations, and collaborate with the OSNAP PIs at WHOI as well as with the U.S. and international OSNAP community virtually and at workshops. Education & Experience Ph.D. in Oceanography is required. Required technical skills include substantial experience with the analysis and interpretation of time series data and model output, and programming languages including MatLab.
