• Instructs in GED preparation, both in classroom and on-line, enabling participants to earn the credential of GED, representing mastery of certain basic competencies desirable to employers.
• Essential Job responsibilities:
• Provides classroom instruction both on-ground and on-line to participants in the field of mathematics. The person should also be available for on-one-one tutoring if necessary.
• Uses classroom instruction and is responsible for creating a regularly scheduled on-line classroom environments in order to engage participants who are unable to attend on ground classes. Responsible for all math topics covered in the GED test, and provides examples and practice problems beyond that what is found in teaching textbooks.
• Ascertains the participants ability to understand the material and schedules the math portion of the GED Ready test when a participant is considered ready to take this practice test. Provides progress reports as needed.
• Provides individual counseling (either on ground or on-line) to students on an as-needed basis.
• Other duties as assigned.


• Must possess strong communication skills and the ability to engage participants in non-traditional environments. This candidate must be extremely flexible as to when instruction is done – preferably available for in-person instruction on a regular basis, in addition to creating and maintaining a strong on-line teaching and tutoring presence in both the afternoon and early evening.
• The ideal candidate will have the ability to create an on-line instruction model which transfers the vitality and enthusiasm of the on ground classroom into an on-line environment. Strong computer skills are a must. Experience working with participants with one or more barriers to employment is preferred. The candidate must be willing to be available, within reasonable hours, when on line participants are ready to continue their studies.
• B.A. or B.S in mathematics is needed, and prior teaching experience is preferred. Candidate must be willing to do whatever it takes for a participant to take and pass the Math element of the GED.
