What you will do
Are you interested in bringing your data engineer expertise in a start-up environment to this brand-new organization within Johnson Controls, Inc.? This is an exciting opportunity for you to expand your design and development experience while working with the latest technologies!

You willbe involved in all stages of digital product development including research,testing, inception, development, execution, analysis of the design usage andengagement.

How you will do it
  • Develop the data services architecture and maintain the associated design artifacts (conceptual models, logical and physical data models, data ontologies and dictionaries) to support the platform.
  • Optimize database queries/transactions for improved platform performance and operation.
  • Develop database design best practices and common methodologies for the development teams.
  • Develop and maintain strong effective working relationships with key management personnel and internal client base including data engineers, Business Analysts and directly with the services/businesses
  • Present data in graphs, charts, tables, etc. and design and develop relational databases for collecting data.
  • Keep track of trends, patterns and correlation in case of complex data sets.
  • Be involved in all aspects of the project lifecycle, including strategy, road-mapping, architecture and implementation in order to gain maximum exposure to set you up for success.

What we look for

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering/architecture
  • Previous experience in a start-up environment
  • Experience designing horizontally scalable system architectures designed for high-volume, transactional rates and data flows
  • Experience with infrastructure components such as LDAP, Single Sign On, SQL and NoSQL database technology, and virtualization technology used to manage IaaS and PaaS infrastructures
  • Experience with scalable cloud technology stacks such as Kafka, Storm, Spark, HBase, MongoDB, Cassandra, and CEP systems
  • 5 years development experience utilizing distributed processing solutions (e.g. Hadoop), distributed storage solutions (e.g. Cassandra, HBase), real-time and post analytics processing architectures, application server platforms, clustered infrastructures, distributed queuing technologies (e.g Kafka, Kestrel, RabbitMQ), and distributed caching (e.g. memcached)
  • Ability to clearly explain data and analytics strengths and weaknesses to both technical and senior business stakeholders
  • Experience designing and building applications from the ground up
