Job Summary

This role will responsible for directing and developing advanced, proactive and in depth analysis across our retail categories specifically related to Walgreens Pricing, Promotion and Owned Brand strategies.
Responsible for directing and managing a team of Sr. Managers, Associate Managers, Sr. analysts and analysts. Ensures collaboration between the Value and Owned Brand Insights team and key cross functional partners both within Insights (Category Insights, Brand Insights), and across the Merchandising, Marketing and Owned Brand organizations in developing data-driven recommendations to improve the value and assortment we are offering to our customers. Responsible for managing proactive analysis of competitive strategies around pricing, promotion and owned brand through the analysis of competitive market data and customer research. Directs continuous improvement activities in both methodology used for analysis and data analyzed. Oversees the development of innovative methods and practices in reviewing, analyzing and presenting value and owned brand solutions for our customers.



Job Responsibilities
  • Directs process improvement and develops new approaches to the conventional methodology of how analysis and reporting of department, category & item level monthly results.
  • Drives the utilization of best practice approaches and new methods of running analysis based on expertise in Statistics and SAS. Reaches out to experts in the field of Revenue Management and attends conferences to understand latest trends and best practices.
  • Directs analysis of the impact of price changes (for both National Brand & Private Brand items), ensures recommendation of price adjustments and the presentation of results to Category Managers or senior management. Communicates and publishes fact-based results to management as well as makes recommended changes to pricing strategy.
  • Directs analysis of all promotional activity, reporting results and recommendations to Category Managers and/or senior management.
  • Drives the development and improvement of standard pricing and promotional analytic report templates, presentations, methodologies and processes through advanced analytical though processing.
  • Directs the creation and analysis of price tests or the analysts who use statistical methods and reviews and approves Analysts’ recommendations based on results.
  • Directs the analysis of price changes at the store/market level. Manages all post analytics for price changes and store zone changes. .
  • Oversees the process of analysis and presentation of results for competitor pricing strategies through which national and local retail data are used and for market level competitive data that looks at multiple retailers.
  • Directs the analysis of data used to select items and categories for the Known Value Item (KVI) program.
  • Develops and oversees the verification of competitive integrity and the setup of competitive shops by analysis of locations and items.
  • Develops and mentors staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace. Manages and develops analysts’ leadership skills and their approaches and methods to analyze, report, and recommend new pricing and promotional strategies.
  • Plans, develops and manages departmental expense and capital budgets.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and at least 8 years of experience in Retail, CPG, Sales or Marketing in an advanced analytics role OR Bachelor’s degree and at least 12 years of experience in Retail, CPG, Sales or Marketing in an advanced analytics role
  • Experience with analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions, including focus on profitability and ROI.
  • Experience with SAS or other statistical / data manipulation software.
  • Experience with competitor analysis.
  • Experience presenting to and coordinating executive level meetings.
  • At least 6 years of experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or MBA and at least 12 years of experience in a pricing and promotions strategy and analytics role.
  • Experience in reviewing and analyzing retail data (such as Nielsen, IRI, etc.)
  • Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Experience with Revenue management or Pricing analysis.
  • Experience in reporting and deeper analysis of broad based promotional events and targeted campaigns.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skill in SQL (create complex queries using nested SELECT statements, simplify queries by creating new views, deleting and altering tables, using Boolean logic, working with NULL values, constructing queries, etc).
  • Experience with Business Objects and other reporting packages
