Reports to the Associate Vice President for the Office of Organizational Culture, Inclusion, & Equity.Simmons University invites applications for the full-time position of Director, Multicultural Center. As an integral member of the Office of Organizational Culture, Inclusion, and Equity, the Director will facilitate programs, activities and services which support and align with the University?s Diversity and Inclusion goals, and enhance the overall educational experience through the development of, exposure to and participation in social, cultural intellectual, recreational and governance programs. The Director should have an entrepreneurial spirit and be prepared to build a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment across the University. This will be accomplished through educational programming, training/workshops, and activities that promote multicultural awareness and inclusion. The Director will provide advocacy and coordinate support to promote the success of students from underrepresented groups and diverse populations and play a lead role establishing effective community-wide strategies that support the retention and persistence of historically marginalized identities on campus. The Director will work to create a vibrant student community which supports an environment in which students can thrive. Essential Responsibilities:Implement programs and services that support and affirm underrepresented students;Plan, implement and assess programs that facilitate cultural engagement across campus;Provide direct, one-on-one and cohort support for traditionally underrepresented and marginalized students;Collaborate on key diversity and inclusion efforts including student leader training, faculty lecture series, critical community conversations;Create, facilitate and manage peer mentoring programs, multicultural student orientations, heritage month programming;Advise student affinity and cultural organizations (undergraduate and graduate. online and campus based);Collaborate and work with the Student Affairs Division with student engagement initiatives and orientation;Coordinate academic support with colleagues in Undergraduate Advising, Student Success, Accessibility Services, etc.;Facilitate group discussions and town hall meetings in response to campus, national and global events;Assist in the development of collaborative partnerships and serve on institutional committees to establish and implement programs which enhance the retention and success of students of diverse backgrounds; serve on various division, institutional, and external community committees that address the needs and success of underrepresented students;Serve on the President?s Advisory Council on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and other relevant committee representation as needed;Responsible for hiring, training and supervising student workers and/or interns;Other duties as assigned.QualificationsMaster?s degree in higher educational administration, student development, counseling or related field;A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in the area of multicultural affairs, diversity and inclusion, student activities or working with traditionally underrepresented student populations;Demonstrated success in program planning and implementation, supervision, and student organization advising;The ability to work independently and as a member of committees and teams; this individual should have strong community-building and group facilitation skills;Experience developing and delivering identity-centered resources, workshops and training, required;Ability to work collaboratively, as well as a proven ability to think both critically and strategically;Proven ability to work effectively in a dynamic and diverse environment, with a committed and engaged faculty, and with a highly creative student population;Ability to respond to emergency situations; understanding for the appropriate management of sensitive information and records; and proficiency for promoting college student development and equitable student success constructs within the student affairs field;Ability to work nights and/or weekends on occasion to support student schedules for programming and events;Ability to embrace change and adapt strategies on the fly;Excellent written and verbal communication skills;Budget development and management; overseeing day-to-day expense tracking and invoice and procurement processing;Development, Execution, and Distribution of Annual Reports;Develop, implement, and oversee data dashboards to include appropriate research, preparations, and recommendations, liaise with other campus departments/partners to establish relevant metrics, as required.
