HCA’s Information Technology & Services department (IT&S) employs over 6,000 employees across the U.S., operates six data centers and fourteen division support centers responsible for delivering IT services to HCA and its subsidiaries such as Parallon and Sarah Cannon, as well as other customers around the country. Based in Nashville, TN, HCA IT&S’s array of services includes business analysis, systems development, systems integration, information security, customer support, training and education, and infrastructure support.


JOB SUMMARY:

The Cyber Analytics & Tools intern helps support the threat detection and response services within the larger Cyber Security team at HCA. This intern role has the opportunity to learn and work across several different service lines, including cyber analytics, cyber tools management, and threat response.

In cyber analytics, you’ll have an opportunity to build and tune new detective capabilities inside our security incident and event management platform. In cyber tools management, you’ll be able to learn the functions of and how to effectively manage the various sets of tooling and sensors that give us visibility into the larger network and application environment. Finally, in threat response, you’ll have an opportunity to analyze and respond to real-world cyber security threats and work those to remediation.

 

While prior experience is not required for this role, an ideal candidate brings a strong willingness to learn and adapt, an ability to think creatively to build solutions for new and unfamiliar security challenges, and a desire to collaborate with our customers and team members to provide meaningful threat detection services.


 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write scheduled and ad-hoc queries in Splunk SPL and Microsoft Sentinel KQL.
  • Programmatically model large volumes of telemetry data to find cyber threat events.
  • Execute and manage security-related projects.
  • Create data visualizations and dashboards for customers.
  • Develop custom tooling and scripts as needed to orchestrate, automate, and enhance threat detection capabilities.
  • Investigate and respond to security threat events.
  • Detect and analyze malicious code.
  • Map detection capabilities and telemetry sources against the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
  • Deploy and manage cyber security sensors such as intrusion detection system devices, endpoint detect & response agents, malware sandboxing tools, etc.
  • Perform threat modeling exercises to determine log telemetry needs and future detective capabilities for defending new applications.
  • Participate in red/blue team exercises and interpret the results of the attack and penetration testing of the HCA enterprise for information gathering, vulnerability detection, analysis and exploitation planning, and results reporting to remediate exploits and ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability of mission critical information assets.

EXPERIENCE:
 

Less than a year of applicable work experience is needed for a successful candidate.

 
EDUCATION:
 

High School graduate is needed for a successful candidate with a Bachelor's degree preferred.
