The Crestron Product Management Team has an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Level Data Engineering Co-Op Student who can work with our team in identifying business decision making needs and developing pragmatic solutions. With a sound background in business analysis, the successful candidate will be capable of Investigating key stakeholder needs, current processes and IT systems; collecting and documenting requirements; and working collaboratively to translate them to BI dashboards that deliver profound actionable insights. This role will begin in mid-January 2021 and end by August 13, 2021.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Working closely with business sponsors, gathering requirements and translating them into Power BI Reports and dashboards.
  • Ingesting data from a variety of corporate data sources and performing required transformations in Power BI query editor
  • Data modelling capabilities including designing effective BI data models
  • Designing effective layouts using themes and report grids
  • Utilizing the navigation features in Power BI (e.g. bookmarks, drill-throughs) to guide readers through a compelling data-driven story.
  • Working with sponsors to manage User Acceptance Testing (UAT) processes and fixing any defects identified.
  • Publishing reports via the Power BI service, managing them through distribution of apps and monitoring usage/data refreshes/security access.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.


General Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a Graduate Student at a college or university working toward a Masters Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, or closely related field.
  • Must be available to work up to 40 hours per week during the entire co-op period, beginning in mid-January 2021 and ending August 13, 2021.
  • Commutability to and from the Rockleigh, NJ area for the duration of the internship period is preferred. Remote work will be utilized based on the most current health advice surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Crestron will consider International Students for this role. (International students must be work authorized for the duration of the Co-op.)

Technical Skills
  • Required:
    • Prior experience with Business Intelligence using the Microsoft BI stack (e.g. SQL Server database, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, Power BI)
    • Very strong SQL skills for querying and creation of views/tables, functions and stored procedures
    • Strong skills in writing DAX queries
    • Experience in designing ETL processes including knowledge of data warehousing strategies and theories
    • Experience building dashboards and reports using Power BI
    • Experience articulating and documenting architectural solutions and processes
    • Experience collecting requirements through standard techniques like document analysis, interviews, focus groups, customer journey and other process mapping
    • Knowledge of cloud computing, preferably on Azure
  • Preferred:
    • Some experience with the Azure stack and Microsoft PaaS offerings - Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Data Warehouse plus orchestration products like Azure Data Factory and Enterprise Service Bus
