Eaton Corporation is currently seeking a Legal Counsel - Latin America, to join the Law team. This position is based at our Mexico City or Queretaro offices.

This Legal Counsel role shall have generalist legal responsibilities in multiple business divisions and functions within Eaton’s Latin America region. Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Counsel for Eaton’s Industrial and Electrical Sectors, and functionally to the SVP, Global Ethics and Compliance, the Legal Counsel - Latin America will experience a variety of tasks and challenges related to competition law and trade, channel distribution regulations, litigation, contracts, labor and employment law, health and safety, intellectual property, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, ethics investigations, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FPCA) and Anti-Corruption law and government relations.

In this role you will:

+ You will provide legal and strategic counsel to Eaton’s Latin America region in order to maximize benefits and reduce risk.

+ You will ensure the business practices, policies and activities of Eaton’s Latin America region meet legal and management requirements.

+ You will proactively identify potential problems and devise creative solutions that strike an effective balance between cost and return, including both short term and long term business and legal considerations.

+ You will provide legal advice on contract terms and conditions and assist in identifying and assessing risk related to alternative terms and conditions.

+ You will lead negotiations in order to properly communicate Eaton’s position, maximize benefits and mitigate risk.

+ You will partner with Ethics and Compliance teams to provide advice and counsel to business leaders on ethics and compliance issues, trends, and programs.

+ You will support the Ethics and Compliance team in leading and reporting on complex, internal investigations of matters reported

+ You will deploy sustainable training initiatives for leaders, employees, and third parties in Mexico that improve ethical decision-making and drive ethical behavior.

+ You will provide oversight and support the deployment of compliance initiatives as well as risk assessment and mitigation activities for Mexico, including the annual risk assessment, third party due diligence program, and data protection program, ensuring adherence to all and related processes, policies and procedures for each program.

+ You will engage, manage and supervise outside counsel when appropriate and necessary, to provide the necessary level of legal services required for specific transactions.

+ You will be “hands on” and involved in the business. Have courage of conviction and be prepared to stand up and be accountable when required.

+ You will ensure that you provide periodic reporting to senior leadership of the Law team and the Operations teams you support as transparency is critical to the success of the enterprise.

Calificaciones

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

+ JD degree from an accredited law school

+ Minimum of 10 years’ business legal counsel experience at a public company; Fluent verbal and writing skills in Spanish

+ Licensed Attorney in a minimum of one jurisdiction in the United States or a Latin American Country

+ Excellent spoken and written communications skills in English and Spanish and the ability to adapt the message to effectively share information with internal and external stakeholders.

+ Demonstrated legal knowledge and leadership

+ Sound strategic thinking

+ Ability to provide legal support to executives, clients and other attorneys

+ Ability to manage complex professional relationships working in a large established law practice, corporation or government office.

+ Experience with a large law practice, corporate legal department or government office providing ample opportunities to work on a wide variety of projects.

+ Comfort in juggling heavy workload and multiple matters

+ Demonstrated leadership, sound strategic thinking and ability to support executives, clients and other attorneys.

+ Eager to take on leadership initiatives and challenging opportunities.

+ Established success of working in multiple “different cultures"
