SHIFT: PRNSCHEDULE: PRN/Per Diem
Come join the Inpatient Rehabilitation Department at Parham Doctors’ Hospital! Our multi-disciplinary team evaluates and treats a wide variety of patients with Neurological, Cardiac, Medical, Orthopedic and Pulmonary impairments in our 36 bed rehabilitation unit situated within a 200-bed acute-care facility serving Central Virginia. As part of the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) family, our hospital offers orthopedics, spine surgery, bariatric surgery, behavioral health care, inpatient rehabilitation, emergency services, podiatry, sleep services, primary care, an occupational health and travel clinic, and outpatient surgery.
- Evaluates inpatients and outpatients with speech, language, cognitive, oral motor, swallowing, and voice disorders; and outpatients with foreign accents. Diagnoses and develops goals for those patients and provides appropriate treatment. Adapts conventional Speech Therapy techniques to meet the age appropriate need of each patient along with other specific needs based on his/her mental, physical, and emotional status.
- Conducts video fluoroscopic studies for patients with dysphagia with Radiologist. Determines deficits. Makes recommendations for feeding and treatment of exercises as needed. Recommends follow-up by Occupational Therapist and Dietician as needed. Educates nurses regarding results and strategies needed. Communicates results to Physicians.
- Reassesses patient’s status regularly to determine progress review goals and plan future goals with patient's participation.
- Provides education and counseling for patients regarding nature of deficits, recovery, compensatory strategies. Provides home program exercises.
- Documents/maintains records and charts.
- Coordinates therapy schedules and goals with related therapies and support systems (i.e., OT, PT, Social Services).
- Attends patient care staffing, conferences, and other related meetings that pertain to the cognitive/communication skills of specific patients.
- Provides education and in-services to staff and public regarding topics in speech-language pathology.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field via reading literature and attending conferences/workshops.
