Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Manufacturing Area Supervisor based out of our Sunnyvale, CA campus.

What You'll get to Do:
The Launcher Manufacturing Area Supervisor will lead a growing manufacturing team that consists of a represented touch labor workforce (typically welder/fabricators, assembly/mechanics, and/or painters) within the larger Launcher Manufacturing Process Area.

As the leader of this team, this individual will be responsible for all manufacturing operations including safety quality, cost performance, and schedule performance of work performed in their assigned process area. This position will also interface with Manufacturing Leadership, a variety of Quality and Engineering disciplines, and occasionally the end customers for the products their team produces and delivers.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Directs the work of employees assigned to the manufacturing area of responsibility. The supervisor has responsibility for the Quality, Cost and timely delivery of products through their area.
  • Manages the Safety and Morale of assigned personnel. Cultivates an environment of inclusion and diversity of the team to drive performance. Performs periodic Performance Evaluations and reviews. Interfaces with Labor Relations and Employee representatives as required.
  • Sets priorities and directs area leads and employees assigned to their manufacturing areas.
  • Monitors and drives adherence to manufacturing plans and schedules
  • Supports and hires to staffing to plans developed by the Process Area Manager (PAM). Ensures all members of the team are adequately trained to accomplish assigned tasked safely, efficiently and with specified quality.
  • Working in coordination with the PAM, ensures machinery, facilities, and supplies/uniforms in their area are maintained, organized, and replenished to support production and in alignment with department budgets.
  • Coordinates with other Operations and Manufacturing functions (Inspection, Scheduling, Production Control, Shipping, Inventory, etc.) as need to ensure internal and external customer expectations and requirements are met.
  • Identifies process/production issues/problems and develops and implements solutions as needed.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree + 9 years of relative experience; Master's degree + 7 years of experience; PhD + 4 years of experience (4 additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree).
  • 2+ years of experience in the leadership/management of complex manufacturing activities or other equivalent leadership/project management experience.
  • Ability to multi-task and solicit data from various sources to make informed decisions to establish priorities and set team direction.
  • Strong capability in the use of Microsoft Excel combined with and ability to interpret and take effective action on reports and data provided by support functions, and to create reports/presentations on area performance as required.
  • Great interpersonal and organizational skills, combined with a hands-on leadership style.
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing represented (Union) personnel in a heavily regulated industry.
  • Experience using SAP in a production environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in precision large industrial assembly and fabrication in a low volume, high mix environment.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of MRP.
  • Experience in a DOD/Government contracting/manufacturing environment and cost-plus and fixed price production experience are highly desired.
  • EVMS experience and proficiency at CAM functions.
  • Experience and expertise in Lean Principles and Continuous Improvement
  • Naval and Marine product experience. Experience working on US Navy programs.
