The Relationship Loan Specialist - MLO is responsible for contributing to the department goals for the number and dollar amounts of home equity consumer loans closed and to ensure the marketing of all TCF services by learning and acting on cross-sell opportunities, including TCF deposit relationships. Properly service customers within the policies, objectives, and guidelines established by the Home Equity Solutions retail division; assure accurate, courteous, and timely processing of all TCF loans. The primary product focus of this role is the Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) and second Mortgages.


  • Interviews prospective loan customers and accept applications for all types of home equity loans. Demonstrates professional salesmanship skills and service expectations while building customer confidence.
  • Restructure credit applicants request as needed to conform to sound lending procedures and make recommendations to potential clients that offer additional benefits to them.
  • Refer all approval terms and conditions to management, recommending approval or rejection and justifying that decision.
  • Convey all approval terms and conditions to the loan applicant and verify that all approval conditions related to these approvals are met before closing.
  • Maintain a pipeline of loan applicants while working with a degree of urgency and attention to detail
  • Possess a solid understanding of Federal and State laws concerning the purpose, processing, approval and denial of loan requests.
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of all consumer regulations, including: Regulations B, G, and Z, Uniform Commercial Code FHLBB, FSLIC, and State Statutes.
  • Ensure that credit quality and compliance issues are maintained per TCF policy.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and relationship building skills that will nurture customer relationships with the intention of developing additional business

  • High School or GED equivalent
  • Two or more years of work experience in Retail Lending loan origination or underwriting.
  • Eligible to be registered on the NMLS as a Mortgage Loan Originator.
  • Understanding of consumer lending regulations.
  • Experience in evaluating loan origination underwriting criteria.
  • Aptitude toward sales.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with a "sense of urgency".
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively communicate loan information with a customer focus.

  • Four-year college degree

This position requires National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) registration under the terms of the S.A.F.E Act of 2008 and Regulation Z.
