Position Overview:

Job Summary

Performs a variety of clerical and technical tasks associated with the pre-analytic area of the laboratory, including

registration, test order entry and specimen processing.

Principal Accountabilities

Manages the flow and content of information to ensure timely and accurate test results and charge capture. Places orders for laboratory testing.

Receives, processes and prepares specimens for transport.

Registers patients and specimens.



Qualifications:

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education/ including Licensure/ Certification/ Registration:

High school diploma or GED. Post-high school course work related to the medical field (e.g., medical terminology, basic anatomy, physiology, etc) is preferred.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory operations is required. Knowledge of blood borne pathogens and laboratory safety is preferred.

Experience:

Experience in clerical (lab preferred) health care or insurance related field. Proficiency in laboratory and/or hospital information systems is highly desirable.

Skills:

Requires organization, attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, decisive judgment and the ability to work with frequent interruptions and minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment

balancing multiple priorities and take appropriate actions in challenging situations.
