Job Description

Summary

Reporting to the VP of Data Management, the Senior Database Engineer is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, securing and supporting Thomson Reuters/Pondera Solutions’ Databases.

Essential Functions

  • Performs enterprise monitoring, alerting, and security compliance solutions for SQL servers.
  • Designs and implements database structures and ETL processes to meet user requirements.
  • Oversees the ongoing tuning and optimizing of existing databases.
  • Manages, supports and maintains database technology and infrastructure, adhering to the architectural guidelines and policies.
  • Designs and develops user-facing presentation tools (SSRS reports, multi-dimensional cubes).
  • Ensures the security of all Company databases.
  • Supports multiple projects in building new data sets and data structures as required, and for managing the distribution, replication and archiving of data throughout the platform.
  • Safeguards organizational Human Resources and financial sensitive information from unauthorized usage and individuals

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or closely related field;
  • At least (5) five years’ work experience in application development, or closely related field; OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or closely related field;
  • At least (7) seven years’ experience in a related field;

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and methods of database design
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work cross functionally and communicate company database information to developers, management team members and others as needed
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels both inside and outside of the organization
  • Advanced knowledge of Business Intelligence concepts
  • Follows instructions, responds to management direction
  • Strong knowledge of T-SQL
  • Advanced knowledge of Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) process for data warehousing
  • Strong knowledge of Agile SDLC

Preferred:

  • Advanced in Microsoft SQL Server and components of SQL Server (SSIS, SSAS and SSRS)
  • Advance knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2014
  • Intermediate in Oracle Business Intelligence
  • Intermediate in MySQL
  • Advance knowledge of Star and Snowflake schema
