Individualizes preoperative planning and preparation for surgical intervention to meet the needs of each patient and his/her surgeon
Prepares the surgical suite / clinical area, supplies and equipment to ensure safety for patients and personnel
Assists with the surgical procedure
Adheres to the Association of Surgical Technologist Code of Ethics
Contributes to an environment that is conducive to clinical education of surgical technology students
Participates in routine unit duties
Qualifications
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) verification course, as specified in policy
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from NBSTSA
- Graduate of an approved school of surgical technology
- Previous experience performing surgical technologist duties in an obstetrical setting
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of accepted operating room standards and practice
- Knowledge of instrument names, types and uses
- Knowledge of electric video operative field equipment
